Saddam and Bin Laden (from the Dean Blog)

(I got this from BFA. Has anybody this piece in the news)

OK, here is what happened to the WMD. Nobody lied.

Bush’s ego caused the wrong answer to the key question: Whom did Saddam consider as his main enemy? The President of the U.S. was the dead wrong answer. It was the Islamic Radical Fundamentalist Bin Laden, the man determined to wipe out secular Arab governments.

With all our Desert Storm era weapons (1980 vintage) were not able to crack Saddam’s underground city bunker. Saddam felt safe in his bunker, until the first Islamic Fundamentalist attack (1995 van bombers) on the WTC in NYC. Saddam recognized Bin Laden’s trademark tactic of using sleeper cells and local materials to attack soft targets of national or religious significance. He knew his bombproof underground complex was on Bin Laden’s trophy target list. He figured the attack would be from Saudi trained Iraqi Islamic radicals. He knew his Baghdad bunker complex was vulnerable to biochemical attack. Saddam secretly and systematically destroyed his WMD to keep them from falling into the hands of Al-Qaeda or other terrorist group. He assumed Western Intelligence knew this. Saddam misread all of Bush’s warnings as some sort of game.

And again Bushes ego steered us wrong, by seeing 9/11 as strictly an attack on this country. He missed the fact Bin Laden was primarily showing off to the Islamic World.

What could be the likely source of so called intelligence, showing a false linkage of Ba’athist party and Al-Qaeda? It was certainly not Al-Qaeda, right? Bin Laden played Bush like a banjo.

Bush did to Iraq everything Bin Laden could have hoped for in his wildest dreams, and tied up our resources for attacking him in the process. I can only imagine the joy Bin Laden feels with every State of the Union speech.

I’d give Saddam sanctuary in Syria, if a force picked from his Elite Republican (not the GOP) Guards found and delivered Bin Laden.
