What was your opinion of the Democrats sitting on their hands.....?
at last night's SOTU speech? They seemed to be folowing the lead of Ted Kennedy. In some instances, they did stand and applaud. When he mentioned the troops in uniform, they did stand and applaud...and on a few other instances. However, for the most part, they did not jump up like robots and cheer George W Bush. As the other side would gaze over at them with unwelcome eyes, they ignored them. Was that good or bad for our Party? Was it good or bad for our country? I tend to think it was good for both and would like to commend the Democrats for standing up.

1. by which..
by "commend the democrats for standing up" you mean standing up for themselves by sitting down? *grin*

It was alright. The shots of Kennedy certainly were great. I would have preferred outright booing, but that's not about to happen..

10. Some DID boo
check out this thread in GD "Did anybody else hear boos during SOU?"

I'm glad the Democrats have stopped behaving like slavish little lap dogs during public appearances. No matter what you think of Dean, I think we have to thank him for helping the grassroots convey the message that we're SICK of spinelessness!

6. you mean like "The Patriot Act is set to expire--<LOUD APPLAUSE>
more applause...that was hilarious. priceless. old Bush looked like he was planning to send them to a reeducation camp after they did that. Really threw off his timing and he wished he didn't pause at that comma. LOL.

8. even funnier.... it's in the official transcript!
Key provisions of the Patriot Act are set to expire next year. (Applause.) The terrorist threat will not expire on that schedule. (Applause.) Our law enforcement needs this vital legislation to protect our citizens. You need to renew the Patriot Act. (Applause.)

11. Republican Simmons on local radio
CT representative Rob Simmons (a Republican) was on local radio today here in CT and mentioned that both sides applauded less this year than last, but that the Dems applauded loudest when Bush said the Patriot Act was set to expire, and he said that they were joined by a few Republicans when Bush said that...

He said he tracks these things because he used to teach political science.

4. Good!
I remember quite vividly the sight of repukes sitting on THEIR hands during Clinton's SOTU speeches, espcially during the "scandal" when shots of Hyde, Barr and Gingrinch looking very stern and angry were on the screen. Haven't we applauded * enough? Haven't we given him the green light for wars, the stripping of civil liberties and more $ for corporations? Must we also applaud the emperor every time he opens his fricken' mouth? I just wish one of our guys had stood up and yelled "YOU SUCK!" mid-way through that farce.

McCain's strong feeling of hostility is in the same league as Dean.

7. I thought it was terrific. They don't support these ideas and they
let the American people know that. I thought the shots of a pissed of Kennedy were the highlight of the night. He just sat there, shaking his head in disapproval. I hope he won the votes of many undecided voters. Sometimes actions speak louder than words and the actions of the dems last night were good.

I think it threw the chimp for a loop. He has lost his stump speech of being a uniter not a divider. The country got to witness first hand how divided this administration has made the country.

There wasn't one thing in that speech that reached out to the center or the left. It was all for his freaky base.

many of the republicans sat on their hands for significant parts of the speech.

I wished they would have shown Byrd, but they were too chicken to do that.

18. I think they would have made a better statement if they
had refused to attend the SOTU message. Maybe they can't legally, but these are times of crisis in our government and I would have admired them if they had taken this step.
