1. It'l be tough on the Dem side to sit sometimes..
When the repubs all whoo-hoo about Saddams capture and our "victory" in Iraq, should the Dems sit? If they don't applaud it will look unpatriotic and suggest they don't care about getting rid of Hussein, which looks bad to the average viewer.. If they applaud it looks like they approve of Bush and Cheyney. Tough call.

2. I'm also going to need alcohol
That's why I'm leaving work soon to go to the bar. I can't stand all the clapping, give it up.

4. giving proper respect
If you ask me, they ought to all stand, but not clap. that should send sort of message that, hey, he's the president, sure, and getting saddam in the end wasn't bad. but that, dude, you're a moron and this war was pointless.

8. disobey the bush
I'm just looking at it from the point of view that certain media outlets are going to twist whatever the democrats do in a bad light. if they don't clap for some things, they'll say that they are on saddam's side, or whatever. if they ever clap, or ever give a standing ovation on anything, the media will conclude that even despite all differences that the democrats think bush is some how worthy of this applause. so all i could think of would be to do something unexpected.

whenever there's something half-worthy of a standing ovation and all the republicans stand up.. never stand up at all. clap, fine, go ahead, but don't stand up. and then, whenever he says something that's an out right lie, perhaps, and he pauses for a republican clap break, the dems should all stand, but not clap. . (heh and see how many republicans follow suit by standing then notice the dems aren't clapping...)

i guess what i'm saying is that the dems couldn't survive if they -turned their backs- on the president. but .. you know, some kinda civil disobedience would be interesting.

12. I just wouldn't stand up
I would love to see someone (maybe Kucinich) do something unexpected or say something after the SOTU was over. Like attack the shrub verbally, even harsher than he has.

16. Respect for what???
To the 'office' of president??? Sorry, but we have no legitimate president right now, the last one was Clinton. Gore of course would be legit, but he was never sworn in.

If Bill Clinton, or Jimy Carter, or even Ford or Poppy Bush enter the chamber, yeah they should stand. But not for the Thief.

6. Dont watch it. Why do it to yourself???
I figure the only one with the gumption to NOT clap, will be Kucinich, and MAYBE Teddy.

11. Add it to the SOTU drinking game
Everytime Bush is "interrupted" by applause - sip

Evertime Bush is "interrupted" by applause, but the dem side of the house remains seated - finish drink.

Just my intentio... er suggestion. :)

13. Potassium cyanide margaritta hmmm
It will be interesting to see what repubs, if any, don't stand up. What side of the isle will Zell Miller be sitting on.
