Dear Mr. President:
I am writing to inform you that I will not be attending your State of the Union Speech tonight. I had intended to tell you that I have other commitments for the evening, but out of respect for the office, I will not lie.
The truth is, Mr. President, I just don’t trust you.
Faithfully, as a good American citizen, I watched your speech from beginning to end last year. Although I had many doubts about the dangers presented by Saddam Hussein expressed in the address, I was willing to give you the benefit of a doubt. (after all, I certainly don’t get CIA or FBI briefings like you do.) But as it turns out, everything you said in that speech was, well, a lie. We know that now. We know ther were no WMDs in the quantities you claimed. We know there was no “yellowcake” from Niger. We know there was no link between Saddam and Osama.
Let me help you out a little bit on a parable you seem have a little trouble with:
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
That, Sir, in a nutshell is why I’m not attending your speech tonight.
Sincerely,
A. Taxpayer
