However, all of that assumes an uncorrupted "voting" system and a law-abiding party in power.

Neither of which we have IMHO.

When all the disenfranchisements (sticking the Minority Counties with the error-prone machinery is certainly one tried and true method) and ballot stuffing by already tested methods (Repugs voting their vacation homes as well as their home states for one), I believe that, for the Democratic candidate to eek out a 0.5% victory, they will have to win by at least 8% in actual vote tallies.
