What was the turn-out like in Iowa?
I have heard who won the Caucus but not if turn-out was large or small. I don't do TV news so not to well up on it all. I'm really hoping there was a very large turn-out. By the way I think this is very good for the Dean team. They were getting a bit of a large head and starting to believe all the media hype. It is good to be grounded occasionally. I think the debate has really just begun and I truly hope it stays positive. A close Primary means the Media will pay a lot closer attention which is very good for our side so I'm very happy that things have tightened up. It is good for Democracy.

1. strong turnout
I don't know the exact numbers but turnout was good. Heard on the radio that 45% of people attending were at thier FIRST caucus! This is very good news: people are angry at what Bush is doing to this country. A good turnout in November means Bush gets sent packing back to his fake "ranch".

4. Yep - good Iowa Dem turnout = bad news for Bush
Also, Dems scored a two-fer with the strong turnout and the upset win of Kerry. The Iowa caucus news will overshadow the SOTU address tonight - an ironic twist of fate for Rove Rat. Rove deliberately scheduled the SOTU for the day after the Iowa caucus in an effort to step on the message of Dean. Now all of the talk about Kerry, decorated war hero, will be juxtaposed against Bush, who weaseled out of his National Guard duties. Karma is a bitch.

6. I had a thread on this a few days ago
wondering if Iowa would overshadow the SOTU because it was so competitive, especially with the chance for a surprise winner.

2. NPR said
...at one caucus 200 showed up, 10 times 2000 turnout

...another caucus went from ca 130 in 2000 to ca 175 last nite

I think both were in Des Moines

3. One of my coworkers said that there
were 500 at her site, with many new registrants. At one point, the coordinators had to send someone out for additional registration forms. There was a fairly long line of new registrations at our site and we're in a rural area. We had standing room only with overflow into the hall.

5. Great News!
A heavy turnout as compared to the 2000 Iowa causus is terrific. Dems are pissed and will come out in droves in November to oust Chimpy.

7. It was crowded
There was a near record turnout. The record is 125,000 in 1988 -- over 122,000 showed up last night. My wife and I were first time goers, and we're 50. Many people in my caucus were adamant that Bush had to go. Electibility was a strong concern.

My caucus gave 4 delegates to Edwards, 3 for Kerry and 1 to Dean. That's pretty close to the state wide result, except that Kerry and Edwards would be reversed. Gephardt had no viability (less than 15% of the caucus goers supported him). That was shocking, but apparently not that unusual state wide.

9. Thanks for your response and your participation in Democracy
And welcome to DU. A large turn-out is very good but let's hope we don't get the same results as 1988. :bounce: :bounce: for Democracy

10. Didn't see too many young voters though...
I watched some of the news coverage of the IA caucases, and I saw very few Dems there who were under the age of 40! Where did that generation go?

bt are probably getting buried about now. Turnout was very high and energetic. My smalltown site got 71, three times what they were told to expect
