Unseen and Unheard : Bush's assault on women
Believe it or not, there really is a bit of opposition to George Bush being broadcast on the media. If you listen closely, and look really hard, you might find discussions out there about some outrageous policy of George Bush. Somewhere, on off hours and primarily on public media, you might hear a lone economist challenge the Bush tax plan, a group of activists attack his disregard for the environment, or an angry senior argue the privatization prescription plans. If you listen even closer, somewhere, in the wee hours of the night, you might even hear the Bush War on Iraq bravely challenged. Well and good.

But nowhere, at any hour, and only minimally among the democratic candidates, is there any outcry about one of this administration’s most crucial and potentially disastrous policies: the George W. Bush ongoing assault on women!

1. Thank you RB****Its very true, unfortunately
I think until women take ourselves as seriously as we should, instead of still trying to seek most of our value and esteem through men, will we finally GET IT.....

that we must take care of ourselves and each other.

2. Absolutely
I received a list of 10 ways the B*** Repukes are attacking women and families from www.emilyslist.org. It only focused on American women, listing policies like employers being able to deny overtime pay; appointing RW idiots (my words, not Emily's) to National Fatherhood Institute (who said children of unmarried parents should be kept at the back of the line for Federal programs like Head Start) and their appointee to the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women (who served as President of a group actively opposed to the Violence Against Women Act-their site states "the battered women's movement has outlived its useful beginnings."; B*** trying to eliminate health insurance coverage for contraceptives for federal employees;
Reading about and seeing images of the Iraqi & Afghan women and their children being killed, hurt makes me so aware of the lack of concern of this administration for any of us women.

3. Supreme Court nominations vital issue!
The basic problem is the potential packing of the Supreme Court if Bush gets in. This time, it won't be moderates - but the likes of Pickering and Estrada who will make up the Court. And you KNOW that Scalia will be the new Chief Justice. Young women are so complacent...they have no clue of the struggle to get this far. Someone has to make some noise. Emiy's List is excellent...but the fear of the word "feminist" rivals the recoiling from the "L" word. I don't understand it, but it's there. So many women are quick to disclaim any attachment to feminism...just as so many dems refute liberal or left leanings. Strange and sad.
