Help put Dr. King on the $20
Why put Reagan on the Dime?

Instead, let's help to make a positive statement and put Dr King on the $20!

1. This is a great idea. Andrew Jackson is best noted for ethnic cleansing

(Trail of Tears). Dr. King would be a much more appropriate choice.

4. Jackson is overrated
He defied the Supreme Court and evicted the Indians from their land with the same arrogation: "Now that the court has rendered their decision, let them enforce it". (Does anyone have the exact quote?)

On the other hand ML King is probably the greatest figure in 20th century American history.

No contest. Let's DOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

5. I thought about that too. But then I thought it wouldn't hurt the folks

who are most likely to have $20 bills at any given moment to look at Dr. King's face a little more often.

7. I agree
Dr King was not about making himself famous. I think he would prefer a picture of a group of Americans of different races. That was his dream IMHO. My first post here, have been lurking for a couple of months, finaly got the courage to post

10. How about a black entrepeneur like GW Carver?
that would be a great testament

If King is idolized, it should be in service of his greatest wish...taking care of the poor.

13. Think of it as a paper billboard.
Maybe with this quote: "When the slaves get together, that's the beginning of getting out of slavery."

17. "the love of money
is the root of all evil," according to the maxim. Greed, avarice, the worship of self. Maybe some day we'll do without money, but in the meantime I wouldn't mind inflicting a bit of cognitive dissonance on those who, while drooling over their wad of bills, are forced to contemplate King's image. And for the rest of us, a steady reminder of his life and message wouldn't be a bad thing.

21. Actually, the quote is:
The love of money is the root of all evil.

From the Bible. Often misquoted as 'money is the root of all evil'. Timothy 6:10. 'For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.'

(Don't you just hate nitpickers?)

22. Best way to honor King is to continue his fight...
Bring the next generation along to fight racisim, fight for the poor and underprivileged, work to improve education and social conditions for all.....

Aruguably some of what we are trying to do through political change.

9. I wouldn't want to disgrace MLK by putting him on money...
money is the root of all evil... people snort cocaine with money... and I wouldn't want the image of MLK being trade for sexual favors and prostitution.

the man has a holiday for pete's sake! ;)

12. I don't support that. There's a MLK street in nearly every city in the
USA. Enough is enough. I also object to naming stuff for Reagan and will say that JFK has too many namesakes as well.

Dead people have no way to know whether they're being 'remembered', all this is just crap.

(Yes, I know Ray-gun isn't dead, or is he?....in any case I bet his corpse will be displayed shortly before the elections...)

20. Hmmm
" Dead people have no way to know whether they're being 'remembered', all this is just crap."

Perhaps they don't but the living do. There will be a face on money, that's a given. The questions becomes not whether, but whose face it will be. I think MLK is a far better choice than Jackson ever was.

16. The irony of Jackson even being on the $20 Bill
is that he fought tooth and nail to destroy the US National Bank on ideological grounds and finally succeeded in vetoing its recharter in 1832! Sort of like the irony of naming an airport after Ronald Reagan, if you ask me. I'd gladly have Jackson off the currency and MLK would be an excellent replacement- though I suspect the chance of that happening in my lifetime is about the same as having a colony on the moon.
