Abraham, Martin And John
Abraham, Martin And John

Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
You know I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

Didn't you love the things that they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?
And we'll be free
Some day soon, it's gonna be one day

Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill
With Abraham, Martin, and John

1. A very sad word picture.
Edited on Sat Jan-17-04 10:00 PM by oneighty
I can close my eyes and see them arm in arm. Three of them part of my life, my history. I dreamed with them.

3. it was a beautiful song....
..... but these men did not die in vain. They want us to access the Bill of Rights, which describes the true Patriot Acts, and reclaim the greatness that this nation has the potential to reach. Yes, we should sing this song. But we should also live up to John's call to do what we can for our country. We should dream Martin's dream. We should labor in the streets with Malcolm. And we should take a walk along the recondite path that Robert journeyed. And we will reach that promised land .... and there won't be any Bush administration on that day.

2. "They Killed Him"
"They Killed Him", by Kris Kristofferson

There was a man named mahatma ghandi
He would not bow down, he would not fight
He knew the deal was down and dirty
And nothing wrong could make it right away

But he knew his duty, and the price he had to pay
Just another holy man who tried to make a stand
My god, they killed him !

Another man from atlanta, georgia
By the name of martin luther king
He shook the land like rolling thunder
And made the bells of freedom ring today

With a dream of beauty that they could not burn away
Just another holy man who dared to be a friend
My god, they killed him !

The only son of God almighty
The holy one called jesus christ
Healed the lame and fed the hungry
And for his love they took his life away

On the road to glory where the story never ends
Just the holy son of man we’ll never understand
My god, they killed him !

Sing about mahatma ghandi
Sing of martin luther king
Sing of jesus christ almighty
And the brothers kennedy

9. This song still makes me cry
Here's another verse for those who loved them:

Anybody here seen our friends Paul and Sheila?
Can you tell me where they've gone?
They freed a lotta people, but seems the good, they die young
I just looked around and they're gone

I still love the things they all stood for...

Julie

10. We are their legacy. They would be proud. The dream will never die.
Look around you. There are 40,000 of us on this site alone. We are strong. We are growing stronger.

The outrage over this administration--the shame we feel over its desecration of the America that these great men taught us we should aspire to--has at last lit a fire under our collective asses and brought us together. At last, perhaps, we are on the verge of rebuilding an unstoppable coalition of progressives in this country that will put an end to the right wing zeitgeist that killed these dreamers once and for all.

JFK, MLK, RFK would be proud of the spirit they have inspired in Americans--in people throughout the world even--two generations after their murders. Their lives were not in vain.

We who are inspired by them have a special responsibility. We are proud to accept it. As JFK would say:

I do not shrink from that responsibility.
I welcome it.
I do not believe that any of us would exchange places
with any other people
in any other generation.
The energy; the faith; and the devotion
that we bring to this endeavor
will light our country
and all who serve it.
And the glow from that fire
can truly light the world.

God Bless you Jack, Bobby and Martin (and Abe). And thank you.
