Rush Will Get Two to Five
Call your bookie now and "invest" fifty dollars that Rush Limbaugh gets two to five. This outcome is far more likely than people realize! Right wingers can't protect Rush Limbaugh from the Florida narcotics laws. When those doors slam behind him, Rush is going to feel like a chump. Did he think he was going to keep getting away with high profile felonies?

1. He won't serve a day.

Mark my word. He will get some slap on the wrist probationary sentence.

There are two sets of standards in this country.

8. Why Rush Gets Shafted
Rush will get two to five because, wittingly or not, he was financing a drug dealing operation. It won't make a difference that he didn't know what was going on. Florida's laws are set up for trapping the guys who never handle the stuff themselves. It may seem unfair to impose a drug dealing sentence on a guy who from outward appearances was buying for his own use, but the volume of drugs and the amount of money involved (over a quarter-million dollars) militate against that.

Rush is caught in a difficult place, but so is the State of Florida. The State can't ignore facts and circumstances that in any other individual constitute possession for sale. State prosecutors don't want to set a precedent where a famous guy got off easy, solely because he was famous.

Prosecutors will try to scare him with the possibility of ten years hard time. He'll end up getting two to five years and serving 13 months. All by itself, the money laundering charge has a possible sentence of thirty years.

The nurturance of narcotics syndicates puts this case out of the category of victimless crime. Even if a libertarian argument can be made that this is his own business, the State of Florida has a huge problem with criminal corporations run by narco-capitalists. Florida law reflects the belief that such syndicates are a menace to the well-being of Florida's citizens.

Justice will be especially poetic if Rush Limbaugh ends up getting harsher treatment than his own wrongdoing merits. This man made millions of dollars encouraging his followers to disregard imperfections in the legal system. He is now relying on whatever civil libertarian sensibilities remain in spite his earnest efforts to get rid of them.

I look forward to seeing Rush Limbaugh go to prison. May his fellow right wing talk show hosts make him a cause celebre. Hannity will encourage his listeners to attend Free Rush Limbaugh rallies, and dopers of every persuasion - hippies, Rastafarians, bikers - will turn out in support.

3. Maximum sentence
Wouldn't it be hilarious to push the maximum sentence since Ashcroft set that as the guideline...

(evil grin!)

19. Ashcroft's guidelines only apply to federal crimes
prosecuted by federal prosecutors.

That is the problem I think. Florida law may be different regarding the accessibility of medical records vs Federal law.

11. I advocate illegal drug use.
Particularly marijuana.

But I don't think the thousands of opiates Rush had were for personal use.

If Rush wasn't a hypocrite he'd plead guilty and ask for the maximum sentence. After all, he did say we should send white drug users to prison.

10. As long as there is a Bush in a position to offer a pardon he will not
serve one single day. You can not possibly believe Jeb Bush will not Pardon Rush. Remember the Bush*es proclaimed him a national treasure. If only the sentencing could be dealyed until after both Bush*es are evicted then maybe there is a chance.
