Pentagon Auditors Altered Files (boy, did they)

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=542&ncid=716&e=8&u=/ap/20040110/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/watchdog_fraud

Pentagon (news - web sites) auditors spent 1,139 hours altering their own files in order to pass an internal review, say investigators who found that the accounting sleuths engaged in just the kind of wasteful activity they are supposed to expose.

When the auditors in the New York City office learned well in advance which files a review team would check, they spent the equivalent of more than 47 days doctoring the papers and updating records from several audits, the Defense Department's inspector general concluded. Administrative staff, audit supervisors and other employees also participated in the scheme.

-snip-

The defense agency, which audits government contracts, is the same one that recently reported that Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites)'s former company, Halliburton, may have overcharged the Army as much as $61 million for gasoline in Iraq (news - web sites).

-snip-

The task of rewriting the files was so daunting that auditors came in from other offices to help make the changes, costing taxpayers more than $1,600 in travel expenses.

-snip-

The AP reported in 2001 that the inspector general's office itself destroyed documents and replaced them with fakes to avoid embarrassment in a review of its work.

the bloody hands bushgang has probably plied their stained fingers through every department of the US gov.

I bet the auditors could tell us where the missing Pentagon trillions are.

1. "destroyed documents and replaced them with fakes...
to avoid embarrassment..."

Paging Ken Starr! Where are you now, you intrepid watchdog of the public (pubic?) interests!

Oh, this kind of evidence destruction and faking of documents is certainly OK since it only ionvolves taxpayer money and trust in our officials, NOTHING to do with Clinton's penis.

Move along! Nothing to see here!

Where is congress? Did these people not lie to congress?

Oh, Republicans are obviously allowed to lie! It's in the best interest of the election er I mean the people!

back of the REAL ESTATE SECTION. A section I normally don't bother with on a Sunday morning. It was by total accident that I came across it. I am pissed and writing a LTTE because this is GOVERNMENT FRAUD. It should be front page news. I am one angry mama right now!

Edit: They deleted computer files and back-ups. As usual, this administration has something to hide. WAKE UP AMERICA, WAKE UP PRESS!

5. You think that's bad
They ALTERED the component weightings of the main inflation gauge, the CPI and PPI, to hide rising costs.

See my website.

8. Great website! I like how you have a record of the whistleblowers!
This is just one more reason I don't believe ANY of the figures that come from this administration. I read David Corn's book, "The Lies of GWB" and he goes to great lengths to show how the administration manipulates the numbers to get the desired result in order to push a crappy policy through.

The lies of this administration are unsurmountable. Thanks for pointing me to the link, I found it interesting.

"Administrative staff, audit supervisors and other employees also participated in the scheme."

Tell it like it is: The scheme to defraud, cheat and betray the American taxpayer.

:wtf:

7. This is disgusting
And of course it's buried in the back of the newspapers. Why pay attention to corruption at the Pentagon when there's a war on?

10. Disturbing
Every time I think they can't suprise me any further, they find a way.

This is fucking bullshit. Everyone in the "free press" is asleep at the wheel.

Who cares about fraud and corruption? There is a war going on!! (of course, the President will still take his yearly monthlong vacation and will continue to fundraise heavily, but thats different. War.)

So, seriously, can anyone explain to me why they think we will actually have an election in November?
