Seriously, why does the media play along?
Now, I'm not impressed with the intelligence on display by many of them and admittedly that could be an issue, but it certainly isn't the cause.

The corporations that own the press have to see how harmful * is for the economy, which means their bottom line. So what is the point in watching the destruction of America when it will harm them also?

Then there is the lapdog issue, it is true that anyone who prints the truth is cut off at the knees before the next dawn, but who wants "access" anyway when it is only to receive propaganda.? It is not as if by staying on friendly terms they get actual scoops.

Since many or most of them must know the truth, what's the problem?

1. if they don't play along ..
.. they do not get invited to the yearly WH correspondents Dinner ... which is where all the sucking and *ucking goes on.

p.s. that is why Matt Fudge (packer) became a sellout.

2. How many journalists were murdered in 2003?

17 in the Iraq war alone, I believe, and I don't know how many have been maimed and disappeared.

11. But they still won't tell what is really going on.
Pack mentality or celebrity journalism maybe?

3. Because the competition is not who can get the story....
It is who can get on the cable TV news shows. News is not as important as celebrity. Maybe Chris Matthews will invite them to be on Hardball? Most do not spend a lot of time thinking about the consequences of Bush's lies or if he deserves 4 more years in the WH. They are more concerned about a controversial statement that one of the Democrats might make, because if they are the first to expose that to the corporate media, then they have a headstart on the cable shows this weekend....

7. There aren't that many real journalists in the new
media anymore. I noticed that the ones who stood out in the past, who had real credentials have been pushed out of their high visibility jobs. Bill Press is one. Once a liberal voice on CNN, he got pushed out. He resurfaced on MSNBC and his show got cancelled as well. It used to be that even when a show was cancelled the broadcast networks would find something else for them to do in front of the cameras until their contracts were up, but Bill is nowhere to be seen. I'm sure if you think back there are many familiar faces we don't see anymore.

10. body count
I wish someone would constantly update and post the Bush Krime Family Body Kount - - - - (y'know, the way the wing-nuts would constantly update the "six degrees of freedom" body count of Big Dawg) .... man, do I miss Big Dawg; at least the man would stay at the WH during the weekends once in a while ... and he could grammatically put a sentence together too ...

I remember the author of "Fortunate Son" got smoked ... (told about Dubya's heavy cocaine usage) and the man who was close to the top Krooks at Krooked E (Enron) was found dead in his car .....

13. Journalists get attacked from both sides
Go to FR right now and you'll see freepers saying the media is liberal biast. Some reporters are, some reporters aren't. What we need is a system like the UK where the papers don't pretend they are left or right, they flat out attack the opposition and if you don't like it - read something else.

That's what we need.

14. There just is some
serious self-censorship going on. No one wants that knock on the door in the middle of the night. They know what happens to those who question the BFEE.

15. Just a job
I've asked several reporters over the years what they thought about the issue they were covering at the time. Everyone one of 'em said they didn't care, really, they were just glad to have a job.

I take from that, this: their bosses run what goes on the air or is printed. If they write, or try to air, reports their bosses don't like, they're looking for work.

It is the higher-ups, the editors, who do the censoring. The individual reporters are merely pawns.

Money is what drives the media. Motivate the advertisers and they will motivate the editors to put out the truth. How? Every time you see an unfair report call the company who advertises in that time slot and tell them how you feel. If we all did this we can take back the media.

17. The Media are in it to make MONEY.
The framers of the US Constitution didn't take into account that would be their prime motivation in a DEMOCRACY.
