Anybody see the NBC special segment on pensions?
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 06:57 PM by DemoTex
Of course, I know where my pension is. TERMINATED as of 3/31/2003. That was mentioned in the segment. Seems there is a gag order from my employer which prohibits me from identifying my affiliation with that company. That is how bad morale is at my airline.

What was not mentioned is the phenomenal pressure on the PBGC (Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp.). The PBGC was very solvent on the day Bill Clinton left office. It is in financial shambles now.

Where has all the money gone? Where, in three short years, has all of our money gone?

What-the-hell. On to the Moon and Mars.

1. Since you're retired,
can't you name that company? You're not a current employee, right? Or are you on medical leave with an expectation of returning?

Did those bastards terminate the pensions for you guys? I thought your union had somehow saved them. I'm sure it's just a matter of time since mine small pension from that company disappears.

Luckily, I've always assumed I'd never actually collect anything from them.

And another retired friend from our same mutual airline sent me a news article about this stupid gag order.

7. I'm on long term disability.
Obviously you know the name of the airline. Did you get a copy of John McCorckle's newsletter? That's where I got news of the gag order.

So, let's just call it **Air. And **Air did indeed terminate the pilots' pension plan. No other employees were effected, just the pilots. Fair?

Wake up people. As the old Kingston Trio song, about poor Charley on the Boston-MTA lamented, THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!

9. Rights?
Labor rights no longer exist with the Bu$h regime. Believe me.

We will never get out rights back. Not in my lifetime. It will take a couple of generations of liberal Democratic presidencies, congresses, and courts, to un-do what the bastard Bu$h has done in three years.

But let me tell you something. As I live and breath on this day, I will fight this godamn bastard Bu$h. I will. Join me for the fight. Please.

12. I'm in the trenches in a small Texas town.I am a precinct chair trying
to find voters and better yet candidates to help us stay alive. We have a lot of angry people but few that want to take the heat and run for office, sad to say. We are still giving it our all.

5. So.......do you just have to give up hope?
It would be nice if the "leaders" of our country cared a little more about its citizens. I'm glad some of the media are starting to report just how bad things are. They ought to also show how many people have given up hope of finding a decent job.

6. DemTex......I think you were with a Major Airline (I won't name) but don't
you have a strong Union? My SOL is with your "offshoot branch" and he's fighting for the union. However, he's a RW Fundie.....and we don't talk much except he's "Pro Union Airline" but loves Bush????Figure?

Still, he thinks Pilots got bad deals from your Airline.....locked into contracts and and "flow throughs" that never materialized or if they did they screwed the pilots who took the "flow throughs."

I won't mention the Airline, but having been here awhile, I know the one you're talking about.

It's all really crap...from Airlines to the Drug Companies...(emplyees getting screwed everywhere!)

10. Many pilots love Bu$h.
Actually, they hate Clinton's cock.

The "flow throughs" work fine when the mainline is hiring. I support "flow-through" seniority lists 100%. But fer-Christ's-sake we have over 1800 pilots on furlough with no hope ever of returning! That kind of kills flow-throughs. He might not like out Jet-For-Jobs program, either. Sorry. We paid for those RJs in blood. Union blood. That was part of the largest union give-back in airline history (over $650 million a year at **Air).

8. Yep. I haven't looked to receive a pension
from a company since 1985 when I was working in banking. Deregulation swallowed all the regional banks up and the ones I worked for had next to nothing for pensions if they had a program at all.

11. BTW: Weep not for DemoTex
Mrs/Dr DemoTex does quite well. We saved for 30 years, too. But there is a principle, and a morality, and an obligation. Corporate America has totally fucked those up, IMHO.

Whose streets? Our streets. Get ready folks. I've got the resources to fight the bastards. Thank God.

15. Pension? What's a pension????
Sorry, I will never get one, other than whatever Social Security is left for me when I retire in 40 years at age 94.

17. Not that anything justifies
it, but was your pension totally company paid? Or did you also kick in some of it and that's also gone forever?

I'm fortunate in that I worked so long ago for them that my small pension has been entirely funded by the company. They terminated that plan around the time I left in August of 1979 and went to employee-funded plans and then to a 401k.

I wonder how many of the retired executives of that same company have lost their pensions?

18. OK, it's USAirlines.
I don't work for them, so I can say it out loud.
I've always wondered why they added the "lines" a few years ago.
I thought just USAir was a pretty good name.
Wonder why the PBGC didn't pick up your pension?
They did mine when TWA finally went belly up.
Not that I'm happy that a bankrupt federal agency is responsible for sending me my pennys each month, but, at least so far, it's better than nothing.
