<snip>
Hundreds of U.S. soldiers had just sat down for lunch in their giant chow hall tent.

It was about noon Tuesday when insurgents hit the tent with a suspected rocket attack. The force of the explosions knocked soldiers off their feet and out of their seats. A fireball enveloped the top of the tent, and shrapnel sprayed into the troops.

Amid the screaming and thick smoke that followed, quick-thinking soldiers turned their lunch tables upside down, placed the wounded on them and gently carried them into the parking lot.

"Medic! Medic!" soldiers shouted.

2. Powerful photo
Strange how the tables below the hole ripped in the canvas were not upended but the concussive force was enough to do so much damage to the people below.

Why does this remind me of the video of Columbine?

7. What happened in Mosul-IRR122104
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that
the martyrdom fighter was wearing the uniform of a
puppet policeman and drove his12-ton Mercedes truck
packed with explosives through two barriers and up into
the mess hall. The enormous blast that resulted took the lives
of about 160 American soldiers.

The correspondent reported that the mess hall
could accommodate more than 150 persons and that in
addition to the mess hall itself there was a recreation
room where troops could get internet access, and another
room for international telephone calls and express
letter postage. This was formerly called the Officer’s
Lounge (These guys had a GD Blueprint!). Some Iraqi
and Lebanese translators who worked at the base reported
that there could not have been fewer than 160 Americans in
the building at the time of the blast in the lunch room itself,
in addition to those who would have been in the internet
and telephone recreation rooms. Outside the building was
a garden in which the soldiers would take breaks, to lounge
or write letters. In the area the US troops would not have
been wearing body armor, a factor that brings down the death
toll of Resistance bombings outside on public
streets.

Eyewitnesses said that the driver of the truck was going
fast, about 120km per hour, when he slammed into the
glass front of the mess hall and blew up the vehicle inside
the facility, reducing the building to a ball of flame and
burning ruin.

8. * made some comment yesterday about it being a 'peace mission'.
Oh, here's the statement: We had a rocket attack that took a lot of lives," said Bush. "This time of year is particularly sorrowful for the families as we head into the Christmas season."

"I just want them to know that the mission is a vital mission for peace."

Did you know we went into Iraq to bring 'peace'?

11. Even the Hindustan Times is covering for Bush
Here's the rest of the quote that they conveniently cut out:

"Today, we had a rocket attack that took a lot of lives.
Any time of the year it's a time of sorrow and sadness
when we lose a loss of life."

— G. W. Bush

15. Look at this way ...
All the morning programs ... including the shills on the Today Show, have been doing their damn-dist to take Iraq off the main headlines.

The bombing in Mosul has forced them all to look through the telescope, and they hate that, not unlike all the other days of the year, but during this time of year, when they're doing their damn-dist to opiate the American masses with Christmas and a go out and shop for the latest needless gadget.

They've all been hit with a bomb of reality, so they must placate themselves and others with more mendacity. They're mendacity-addicts. They can't help themselves.

Notice Couric always tries to speak calm during the beginning of an interview, because she's well-aware that her voice reaches a whining nasal pitch. Anytime I watch The Today Show, it's like witnessing a bunch of aging, wrinkled-neck, junior-high kids.

16. re: Today Show
I wanted to jump into the screen and strangle Katie and Matt a week ago Monday. The day before, 7 marines had been killed in allegedly pacified Fallujah, thoroughly disproving the Pentagon's stupid boast that the Fallujah battle had "broken the back of the insurgency." So what story did the Today show devote most of its first half hour - the "hard news" part of the show, they say - to? Speculation on why the Scott Petersen jury had knocked off work a couple of hours early on the previous Friday!

If anyone doubts that the Today Show has become just another tool of the Bush cartel, remember that they assigned Matt Lauer to interview both Kitty Kelly and Michael Moore. Lauer is hardly impartial, he's played golf with GWH Bush.

18. IRR-puppet official-12 tonMercedes stolen several days ago
The puppet official disclosed that the truck used in
the Resistance bombing of the US base on Tuesday had
been stolen from a government bureau in Mosul several
days before the attack.

The statements by the puppet governor and by the Jaysh
Ansar as-Sunnah Resistance organization confirmed
what Mafkarat al-Islam had reported about the blast on
21 December (See the Iraqi Resistance Report for 21
December 2004.) They also contradicted claims made by
US sources and published on various internet news sites
that attributed the attack to rockets or to a martyrdom bomber
on foot. Neither such attacks would have produced the type
of destruction wrought to the solid concrete building that
was totally razed on Tuesday when a martyrdom fighter drove
a 12-ton Mercedes truck loaded with explosives into the
building and blew it up.
