Kucinich: The US Administration and The ICC

The US Administration and The ICC

by Congressman Dennis Kucinich

The ICC derives from the principles and purposes of the United Nations, specifically that all states shall refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state

Each and every member of the community of nations under the United Nations Charter, Article 51, has an undisputed right to self-defense. That right is express. Any nation may claim it. As a matter of record, I assert here and now that the United States has a right to defend itself. I also assert, for the record, that our US Administration has confused the difference between defense and offense.

In order to fully understand the determination of the current US Administration to stand outside the ICC, thus remaining unaccountable for violations of international law, one must understand the difficult situation the Administration finds itself in for ordering a preemptive attack upon Iraq, without prior authorization of the UN Security Council.

The Administration's case against Iraq, if it ever had a credible one, has fallen apart: Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). Iraq was not attempting to get uranium from Niger. According to our own intelligence, Iraq did not have the capability, or the intention of attacking the United States. Iraq had nothing to do with the tragedy of 9/11.

2. Kuchinich Has Been Marginalized By The Repukes
He was the mayor of Cleveland in the late 70's and the city went to shit, as we all know. They went bankrupt and the lake set on fire. Hehe. So guess who took over for him? GEORGE VOINOVICH, scumbag extroidanaire. His connections in the business world and with the other repukes managed to bring Cleveland back from fiscal hell and the embarassment of the cliche Cleveland was such a shithole. He used this popularity to take over as Governor and after his term limits, he is now a Senator. They destroyed his reputation, using him as a scape goat for how shitty Cleveland was. I can say, I've lived in Cincinnati and Columbus and the mayor has very little control over such things. Now it doesn't matter what a brilliant man has to say, his reputation has been destroyed. As we all know, it's not what they're saying, it's who's saying it.

4. Marginalized? He SLAUGHTERED his opponent in the 2004 election.

Dennis Kucinich (Dem) 167,221 60%
Edward Herman (GOP) 94,120 34%
Barbara Ferris (NP) 18,207 7%

Kucinich knew exactly what he was doing, and that is one reason why his constituents love him now.

Cleveland was deliberately bankrupted by republican corporations in retaliation for Kucinich refusing to sell out the people of Cleveland.

Kucinich saved the city of Cleveland $300 million by refusing to sell MUNY Light. Kucinich did the right thing for the people.

Voinovich is a corporate special interest cabinboy punk, like almost every other republican.

'Boy Mayor' Kucinich Took Charge in Debt Crisis

Dennis J. Kucinich's political career was extinguished like a burned-out light bulb on a cold winter night 25 years ago. Journalists came from as far away as England and Japan to record his demise.

As the clock ticked toward midnight — the moment Cleveland would go bankrupt if its mayor didn't surrender to the banks — a local TV station started a countdown, as though it were New Year's Eve.

The date was Dec. 15, 1978, and Kucinich — precocious, pugnacious and ambitious — was, at 31, the nation's youngest big-city mayor. He had won office on a promise to cancel the sale of Cleveland's municipal power company, Muny Light, to a competing private utility. But six banks threatened not to renew the city's credit on $15 million in loans unless Kucinich agreed to sell by midnight.
snip---
If Muny Light had been swallowed by CEI, he believed, it would have cost Cleveland millions of dollars in higher rates and especially burdened working-class homeowners.

Kucinich given thanks for keeping Muny Light

CLEVELAND -- It was a time for memories and vindication, if not nostalgia, recalling the day 20 years ago that then-Mayor Dennis Kucinich refused to sell Muny Light, sending the city into default.

Kucinich, now the U.S. representative for the 10th District, consisting of the West Side of Cleveland and parts of the western suburbs, was honored Monday with a City Council resolution, thanking him for not selling the Cleveland Public Power plant. The plant, still expanding throughout the city, has since saved Clevelanders more than $300 million in payments, officials said.

If Congress were full of folks like Kucinich, this country would be solvent and free.

5. This Is News To Me
However, I do know the genereal consensus amongst the Ohio media, and we all know how that goes. I knew he was in Congress and still very popular among dems, but he has a horrible reputation amongst repukes and indies. The media smals the shit out of him every chance they get. Thanks for that info on MUNY, they never talk about that here. I'll see to it that they do.
