Catholics dispute weight of abortion in election

A liberal Catholic group assembled outside a Hill District soup kitchen yesterday to declare that Catholics are not called to be single issue voters. They also insisted they were not delivering a veiled endorsement of Democratic candidate John F. Kerry.

They held up copies of "Faithful Citizenship," a publication of the U.S. Catholic bishops, which outlines many issues Catholics should consider when voting, including abortion, poverty, euthanasia, militarism and the death penalty.

Some speakers said they believed Kerry's policies would reduce poverty, which would in turn reduce abortions.

the "Catholics for Kerry" and "Catholics against Bush" voice is getting louder each day -- this is good news.
