AZ Tuscon Citizen LTE: Things getting worse in Iraq
As much as I, as a Republican, would like to believe "things are better" in Iraq, the truth is, things are getting worse. U.S. troops cannot even enter some cities; anti-American demonstrations by ordinary Iraqis are regular events; Americans and Iraqis die every day; less electricity is available now than before the war; and the country is in economic chaos with high unemployment and shortages of food and medicines.

We need to face up to reality. President Bush rushed headlong into this ill-conceived and disastrously executed war and alienated friends around the world. His intentional distraction from the search for Osama bin Laden has cost the United States dearly and will cost us more lives and money because this action has fomented more anti-American hate around the world.

I am sorely disappointed with President Bush, who is unwilling to staff and fund the search for Osama bin Laden and would rather try to "con" us with platitudes and shopworn speeches, which are like tinkling bells rather than honest and meaningful words supported by consistent and prudent actions.

Nov. 2, this Republican shall vote for John Kerry, who will restore America to a place of honesty and respect it deserves and has earned.
