For Your Amusement -- Falwell On Zell Miller
Falwell Confidential

Date: September 3, 2004
From: Jerry Falwell

ZELL’S FIRE AND BRIMSTONE

As a Baptist preacher, I have witnessed a few blistering sermons through the years. But I can’t recall a sermon as scorching with passion and righteous indignation as the Republican National Convention speech given by Sen. Zell Miller, the Georgia Democrat who pulled no punches in identifying the absolute surrender of his party to leftist special interest groups at this pivotal time in our nation’s history.

Speaking for the vast majority of Democrats and Republicans in the south, Sen. Miller decried the Democrat policies that are “motivated more by partisan politics” than by a concern for our national security. It needed to be said and Sen. Miller was the perfect man to deliver the message.

I was privileged to spend three days at the Republican Convention in New York City and felt specifically honored that I was in the house to witness Sen. Miller’s moving call for bipartisanship in the defense of freedom and the effort to safeguard our nation from those who seek to annihilate us.

While I knew that the left would criticize Sen. Miller for crossing party lines and utilizing tough language, I never imagined how far that criticism would go.

1. "Moving call for bipartisanship"!!
That's rich! Not surprising, coming from Falwell. I've heard a few Baptist sermons too, and Zell was definitely in the fire and brimstone mode.

6. I find it amazing and depressing
that this so-called man of god can call himself a baptist preacher, christian even. As a former Baptist minister, I do have some familiarity with Christ's teachings and what he had to say about the same sort of perils we are facing. Jesus was a pacifist! He did not start wars. And believe it or not, he made a special point of aliterating that if terrorists blew down your world trade center, give them a shot at the empire state building! Jesus said pray for them that despitefully use you, not lock 'em up without a trial. Whether or not you or I believe in or follow the teachings of Christ is moot. For a man to claim to be the spiritual leader of humanity by the dispensation of Christ and then advocate war, anger, torture, judging other's motives, and all the tripe this dickhead pushes is beyond any semblance of moral superiority or honesty. What is worse is the terrible sin he perpetrates by influencing the stupid, gullible, or emotionally weakened to believe in his personal brand of snake oil.

If it sounds like I despise this sort of flim flam artist, it's only because it's true. Unfortunately, this kind of cad has always been and will always be around to prey on the weak. I dream hopefully for the day when children can be trained early by a psychology we haven't invented yet to dispell the insane notions that allow for this vulnerability.

7. Well said Rev.
I guess to people like Falwell "pro-family" means torturing children now.

8. Oh, khephra, dark humor belongs in the lounge
... felt specifically honored that I was in the house to witness Sen. Miller’s moving call for bipartisanship in the defense of freedom and the effort to safeguard our nation from those who seek to annihilate us.

Yeah, that convention was full of bipartisanship - well, full of it ...

I can report that the GOP platform is very reflective of our conservative ideals.

He should hang it up, his humor isn't funny ... :nuke:

9. "Righteous indignation" is a Repug talking point!
I've heard it over and OVER and OVER again. It is obviously from a fax sent out to all of the right wing nutcases from the White House.

Zell's call for "bipartisanship" is not a call for bipartisanship at all, but a call to give up our values and lay down and surrender to the right wing nuts who seek to take over this country and turn it into a fascist state.

14. One of the things worth mentioning
is Falwells advocacy of murder. He loves the death penalty, including a return to old jewish (and some current islamic) practices that include stoning and honor killing.
