Why Democrats Shouldn`t Be Scared
By Michael Moore

If I've heard it once, I've heard it a hundred times from discouraged Democrats and liberals as the Republican convention here wrapped up this week. Their shoulders hunched, their eyes at a droop, they lower their voice to a whisper hoping that if they don't say it too loud it may not come true: "I...I...I think Bush is going to win."

Clearly, they're watching too much TV. Too much of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Zell Miller, Dick Cheney and Rudy Giuliani. Too much of swift boat veterans and Fox News commentators . . . .

I could only sit there in the convention hall and wish this were the real thing: Rove, national security adviser Condi Rice and Co. being sent to Iraq, and our boys and girls being brought home. But then the lights came up, and everyone sitting in the Bush family box was having a grand ol' hoot and a holler at the video they just saw.

For some reason, all of this has scared the bejabbers out of the Democrats. I can hear the wailing and moaning from Berkeley, Calif., to Cambridge, Mass. The frightening scenes from the convention have sent John Kerry's supporters looking for the shovels so they can dig their underground bunkers in preparation for another four years of the Dark Force.

Something to help my fellow Evil DUers to sleep better tonight.

6. What a hoot. We have Agent Mike and Michael Moore? Cool.
Ah, yes, I shall sleep the sleep of the just. We am what we am.

Thanks, Michael. They even speak of your work here in Tiny Town, so far from any movie house. Thanks for opening eyes around the nation.

And agent Mike, how's it going? Have we turned ya yet? Come over to the light. We are where it is happening.

2. Agreed. But when even many of our fellow DU'ers are repeating media tripe
...it's hard to stay positive.

I've even been called out for getting agressive and nasty with some of the those who are intent on bashing Kerry.

But I don't think giving into fear and despair is the way to win.

Fear is the mindkiller. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.

4. What amazes me is that there is almost ALWAYS a bounce
after a convention so it is way too soon to conclude the Kerry campaign is in trouble. Not only that, but the RNC just ended yesterday so there will be more polls coming out for the next few days that may also reflect a Republican bounce.

As far as I'm concerned, this is just like getting behind early in the second half with lots of time left in the game. Coach would tell us to quit hanging our heads and get out there and play like we're going to win!

Hook 'em, Horns! ;)

7. Thanks for that post
<snip>

---"Exactly what moment was it during the convention that convinced them that the Republicans had now "connected" with the majority of Americans and that it was all over? Arnold praising Richard Nixon? Ooooh, that's a real crowd-pleaser. Elizabeth Dole decrying the removal of the Ten Commandments from a courthouse wall in Alabama? Yes, that's a big topic of conversation in the unemployment line in Akron, Ohio. Georgia Sen. Miller, a Democratic turncoat, looking like Freddy Krueger at an all-girls camp? His speech — and the look on what you could see of his strangely lit face — was enough for parents to send small children to their bedrooms."---

Go Mike! How does it feel to be the straight man for McCain? Did you see his ego light up when he got that huge response?? The ego of a politician.

8. I saw another article around here about young voters
being Kerry's "secret weapon."

Kerry needs to trust that his victory is only going to happen by inspiring the natural base of the Democratic Party — blacks, working people, women, the poor and young people. Women and people of color make up 62% of this country. That's a big majority. Give them a reason to come out on Nov. 2.

And locking up the female vote is as easy as unleashing his OTHER secret weapon, LOL:

11. You're right. If Kerry would stress that the religious right
fill fight to overturn Roe vs Wade, then young women in this country would start paying attention. As a matter of fact, we need somebody like women who had illegal abortions in the old days to explain to young women exactly what that means. It should also be stressed that accomplices to young women who have abortions would also be arrested, like mothers, boyfriends, friends, anybody the girl had confided in. Am I wrong on that, and, if I am, why wouldn't they be arrested?

9. 1000 Percent Correct
Moore is 1000 percent correct.

Bush is going to be defeated.

Indeed, the worst thing for liberals, progressives, Democrats, and patriotic Americans to do is succumb to the fear that the Bush gang wants to perpetuate into our lives.

Now they want us to fear that we are going to lose .. to demoralize us.

But the truth is that too many young people, too many average income Americans, too many Hispanics, too many union members, too many African-Americans ... understand the fascist threat that comes from Bush and his radical Republicans.

Kerry and Edwards are decent, intelligent, patriotic, and courageous leaders. They are going to get elected because we want that to happen, THE PEOPLE will prevail!

10. SLAP! Phew. I needed that.
Actually, I thought that, anyway. I knew this "bounce" was coming. I was prepared to get concerned only if the * bounce was over 10%, or maybe even 12%. Still...it crossed my mind: what if the jerk DOES win?

This snapped me back to reality. The doomsayers on TV are talking so much about how we are in trouble...but we're not. Kerry has been tied all year with Bush, or just about, each eeking ahead of each other at various periods, which is TERRIBLE for an incumbent, esp. a war-time incumbent. Yes, we are likely to win....depending on the events in the next 60 days.

So spank me for the one negative thought I had! :spank:

16. "Please"
Dontcha just love him!

I'm not worried by a Bush* bounce. He's a lead baloon that will go thump by election day. Demoralizing us is a strategy that won't work in my house.
