"We were supposed to humiliate them" [Spiegel Interview /Abu Ghraib ]
Interview with US Staff Sergeant Ivan Frederick on torture at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison.

SPIEGEL: Since the images of torture at Abu Ghraib became public, you have had a lot of time, while detained in Baghdad, to think about your actions. Today, how do you view what you did - as a disgrace for America?

Frederick: I am very upset and depressed about what happened. I'm not a sadist. My family and my friends will attest to that. I was always proud to be defending America. In doing so, I made a lot of sacrifices in the past twenty years, especially since the attacks of September 11. I have always served my country well, even in Iraq - until we were transferred to Abu Ghraib and things got out of control.

SPIEGEL: What was the prison like when you arrived there in October 2003?

Frederick: As soon as I walked into that place the first time, I knew it was a nightmare. There was dirt everywhere, the toilets didn't work, and it stank. The food was terrible. The chicken wasn't cooked properly. It was still raw. We worked twelve hours a day, seven days a week. And we only had five soldiers for 1,000 prisoners. We had no place to unload our stress. Morale was generally miserable.

1. The most disgusting
He cried..I just wanted too humiliate them...
What a piece of shit..a bully is caught, because someone IN Abu Gharib had a heart, was responsible ,had morals had courage and was not in denial, and "leaked" the truth. So now soldier bully is crying like a baby ,typical. You can see this behavior pattern in any middle school when a bully is exposed,or an abuser caught. Bullies NEVER think of the wrongness of their actions until other people who would disapprove of it might see it.All bullies need a culture for company, people tolerant of abuse to let them get away with what they do. This is why government, corporations, and families are corrupt miserable and hurting. We don't stand up to bullies.WE don't risk shaming them enough. We act like sheep when a bully dominates relationships. The military is abuse culture. So are corporations and the state.American culture is glorified bully culture it's dominated by violence, violent non consenting sex, humiliations, swagger denial and abuse..
What these asshole military people don't realize is humiliation IS abusive. Humiliation hurts. It is wrong.
Sometimes you might have to NOT have information you want ,if you want to keep your soul and not be an abuser.
Our military sold it soul ages ago,so did corporations(They are invented and created to have no place for heart)

And until we let go of the bully boy and enabler chain of command bullshit irresponsible bystander jar headed way of relating to others, we will continue to bully other people and deny what we do hurts them(as if we have any right to say what constitutes real pain for another living being) and they will hate us right back, rightfully so.
And we'll have war without end. However once a person crosses the line and acts like a bully do whatever you can to stop the abuse. They have given up the right to be treated with respect, until they stop abusing. I hate the military.I hate bully culture. But sadly bully culture cannot help itself. It needs limits on conduct imposed from outside, from the upset bystanders and victims of abuse telling their stories saying no more..Our military has become state organized bullying, abuse, colonialism and corporate theft. It has NOTHING to do with self defense anymore.
So I don't"respect the troops" until the troops disobey their corrupt soulless commanders and do the right thing and refuse to abuse.
