The American and Israeli dance over the West Bank settlements has become something like a regular ritual, Israel announces plans to build new homes in the settlements that the whole world has deemed illegal: the United States slaps Israel on the wrist;Israel announces it is delaying the new construction; two or three weeks later, Israel announces Government approval for the construction of several hundred new settlement homes.
The perpetuation of this ritual of political deceit takes place at the same time that Israel destroys hundreds of Palestinian homes in the west Bank and Gaza Strip. The consequence is that Palestinians and Arabs have lost all hope in the road map concept, and in the underlying idea that the United States can be a credible diplomatic interlocutor.
