A long way to go
In this age of the media, conservatives are getting to our youths left and right (no pun intended). A cartoon now running in the Chicago Tribune called “Prickly City” has been likening gay marriage to the marriage of a person and an animal. This was also done with the now infamous box-turtle analogy. But more troubling to me than the newest onslaught by conservatives is the fact that we do little about it.
While Bill Cosby talks speaks out to the African American community, no one from the GBLT community is stepping up. Why is this? Are all of the politically “active” gays and lesbians worried about backlash? In the book “Black Like Me,” John Howard Griffin immersed himself in a world of strife and hatred, just to get an answer. But there are no modern day John Howard Griffins.
It would also appear that there are no modern day Martin Luther King (Jr.)s either. No one is stepping up to the administration and talking back.
Perhaps we are “linguini spined liberals,” and if no one steps up to bat, we’re all going to strike out.
