Jake is separated from some of his friends

Some of Jake's friends have been called up without him and he's disappointed about not going with them.

Thursday

Dearest Dad,

I have bad news. At least I think it is. C. C. and his bunch are going on without me. There are four other crews that came here with me that aren't going too. I feel pretty low about it, but I guess everything happens for the best although I haven't been able to figure out what the best can be for me to stay here. I'll take your advice and put my trust in the Lord and as always he will look out for me. I never would have gotten this far along if he hadn't been with me.

The 21st anti-sub squadron which I was with at Gulfport came to Euphrates, about 20 miles away. They're to be made into a Heavy Bomb Group. I've been over to see them and I was really glad to do so even though they are really down in the dumps over being sent to this country. I don't blame them though, we felt the same way when we got here.

The package came in fine condition. The pears and peanuts were delicious. I wish I could be at home to really enjoy them.

We haven't flown in quite a long time and it doesn't seem as though we will either. I'll be so glad to find out just what is going to happen.

Well, Dad, I hope I'll be able to tell you some good news soon.
