Mitt Romney Has a Point on Michele Bachmann
6/26/11 at 12:23 PM

The great joys of the election cycle have returned: Interminable debates! Arcane caucus rules! Premature polls that set the narrative! With (only) seven and a half months to go until the Iowa caucuses, the primary's first Des Moines Register poll is out, and it confirms that Mitt Romney is indeed the front runner in Iowa. He's up by one point over native daughter Michele Bachmann, who's polling expectedly well with "very conservative caucusgoers" and well-educated people between 45 and 64. The best news for Bachmann is that 18 percent of voters said that Bachmann is their second choice ...

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A closely watched Iowa poll has found that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann are running neck-and-neck in the state and well ahead of other contenders for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. The Des Moines Register poll of likely Republican caucus-goers, released Saturday night, offered bleak news for former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who came in a distant sixth despite having campaigned heavily in the state for months ...

... The Iowa Poll, conducted for The Des Moines Register by Selzer & Co. 1. Don't you love it?
An Iowa poll found Romney and Bachmann are running neck and neck. Stop the presses! We have found our new president! If the radio and television don't elect for us, the newspapers will. We will be hearing this crap until Nov. 2012. And I already have a stomach ache!

6. I figure the poll means Bachmann has at most 6% support in Iowa, and perhaps much less -- maybe
as low as 1%

Bachmann Says Eliminating Minimum Wage May Spur Growth
Saturday, June 25, 2011
... Corporate tax rates should be significantly reduced from a maximum 35 percent and capital gains taxes should be eliminated, Bachmann said in an interview on CBS's "Face the Nation" today. Congress should also reevaluate the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, she said ...

2. Bachman will have the more motivated supporters
I don't see Willard Romney's voters tredging through snow on a Tuesday night to go vote for him. Bachman's voters would jump off of a bridge if they were told to.

3. Lol...I was looking for Mitt Romney's great observation on La Bachmann then I realized
The point is a percentage point in a poll.

4. Me, too
But, watching the Repukes do battle to see which one gets beaten by Obama is sort of like watching a cockfight without having laid down a bet.

When I look at the rest of the poll, I see Bachmann being able to pick up more support from the also-rans as they drop out that Mitt does. Hell, Herman Cain still gets ten percent in that poll, and anyone who would support him would support a buffoon like Bachmann in a heartbeat.

7. She has to show a strong enough showing early enough
to keep Palin on the sidelines. I doubt that Caribou Barbie would knife Bachmann in the back, but if she starts to falter, that would change. Clearly, they both have the same 'familiarity' with American history!
