Why is Glenn Beck Obsessively Targeting Frances Fox Piven?
From Democracy Now

1/14/11

**Frances Fox Piven, Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Sociology at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. She is the author, most recently, of Challenging Authority: How Ordinary People Change America.

For more than a year, Fox News host Glenn Beck has been increasingly targeting Frances Fox Piven, a 78-year-old distinguished professor of political science and sociology at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. Beck has repeatedly accused her of advocating violence and of hatching a plan in 1966 to overthrow the system. Piven joins us in our studio.

SNIP* AMY GOODMAN: Glenn Beck has also blamed the financial crisis on Frances Fox Piven and claims she’s part of a leftist conspiracy that dates back to Woodrow Wilson.

GLENN BECK: Let me introduce you to the people who you would say are fundamentally responsible for the unsustainability and possible collapse of our economic system. There are really two people, I’ve been telling you for a while. There they are: Cloward and Piven, Richard Cloward, Frances Fox Piven. They are authors of the Cloward-Piven strategy. Something else to remember is that this isn’t some conspiracy theory that we’re tossing out here. They wrote about collapsing the economy and how they plan to do it in an article they co-authored in the 1960s, "Mobilizing the Poor: How It Could be Done?" six months later published in The Nation under the title "The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty."

SNIP* AMY GOODMAN: This has been going on for, what? More than a year now, this targeting.

FRANCES FOX PIVEN: Well, a couple of years, but I think it started before I was aware of it. I don’t actually listen to Glenn Beck. And I only became aware of it when I was interviewed by a couple of people pretending to be students and working on a term paper. I let them come to my home, and they interviewed me.

1. Because he is a bigot and con-artist.
He's figured out how to combine those two characteristics of his personality effectively.

2. Glen Beck is a very small being
with a extremely small penis. He feels like a big man picked on a 78 year old women and if he could get away with it he would probaby try and beat her on live TV to show how big a man he is.

6. She was required reading when I was in college.
School of Social Work.
Saul Alinsky and Piven were both on the curricula.
To be honest I had no idea she was still active.
Sure to glad to hear she is scaring lil Beck boy.

7. His real problem with her is that she is a sociologist, activist and
known as the advocate for the poorest of the poor (Wikipedia). She is a decent woman.

13. If Jane Jacobs were still alive, Beck would be going after her as well.

9. Thanks for posting. I would think Beck has targeted her becuase she is unknown
outside academia which plays on his listeners paranoia about 'elites', suggesting that the Left has shielded her and her neferious intentions.

10. Not only is she an ACADEMIC (gasp)
SHE'S FROM NEW YORK!!!!

And we ALL know how un-American those NEW YORK LIBERALS ARE!! Almost as AWFUL as "San Francisco liberals."

I honestly think that a$$hat picks names out of hats that his drooling listeners can't find or verify.

12. Sometimes I think that Beck is aiming toward resurrecting a Black List
among academics as well as media.

14. I think so too, and one of my concerns is how the MSM lets him get away
with it. Where is the challenge calling him out? The complicity is sickening and the
refernce to the left being guilty of the same...that makes me crazy when I hear that lie.
