http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/after-election-saber-rattling-has-violent-act-sobered-1176824.htmlSo my new congressman, Allen West, has a newfound appreciation for the nuts who might show up at public events.
"It's time for the country to consider the safety of members of Congress," West said in the hours after a gunman killed six people, including a federal judge, and critically wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords during a meet-and-greet event outside an Arizona supermarket. "We should try to coordinate appearances with the sheriff's office and police department."
I agree. There are lots of crazy people out there, and West ought to know.
He's been one of South Florida's prime feeders of violent fantasies.
After all, he was the candidate who told a tea party audience in Jupiter that they need to make former U.S. Rep. Ron Klein "scared to come out of his house."
West is the guy who carries on as if he's still on a combat mission in some foreign land where a "tyrannical government" has seized control, and it's up to modern-day revolutionaries to "get your musket, fix your bayonet, and to charge into the ranks."
West refers to Washington as a "battlefield" and carries on as if it's 1776, and the enemy is not other Americans who don't share his political views, but a "vile, despicable machine" that needs to be "brought to its knees."
