China's Quarantine U.S. Corn Cargo Refused Entry into China

China's quarantine bureau confirmed on Tuesday it had discovered traces of an unapproved genetically modified organism (GMO) in a U.S. corn cargo and had refused it entry into China.

Genetically Modified Organisms – A Dangerous Experiment

Dr. Arpad Pusztai, PhD, FRSE, "one of the few genuinely independent scientists specializing in plant genetics and animal feeding studies" (OCA, 2005), worked for the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1998. During his employment, he was commissioned to study potatoes "fitted" or genetically modified (GM) with a lectin gene from Galanthus Nivalis, a European plant. He inserted the gene into the potatoes himself, then fed the GM potatoes to lab rats in order to document the effects. What he found was that these potatoes had damaged the organs of the rats and depressed their immune systems

As Corn, Cotton and many more Commodities go through the roof, corn is being turned down by China?

What a tangled web they weave!

2. How come we take their poison, but they won't take ours?
How come China has standards and we don't?

3. China does this whenever they get pissed at us over their monetary manipulation.
I am willing to bet they couldn't care less about the genetic makeup of that shipment of corn.

They do the same thing to Canadian commodity exports when they get pissy at Canada over some trade issue.

6. Chinese Standards
1st - your supposition that this is about food standards is rather naive. This is about international relations - nothing else

Let's look at some Chinese Standards shall we??

- 80%of worlds deaths on mines occur in China - more than 4000 in 2006 alone
- Forced abortions
- Execution of political prisoners
- Harvesting of prisoner organs (alleged that they allow\help prisoners die to expedite the process)
- 20 Million dead under Mao
- No Freedom of Speech, religion or travel
- Falun gong members arrested, beaten and murdered
- Oppression and occupation of Tibet

So...still think that they have better standards?

Try to keep an eye on the big picture.

5. US only country in the world NOT require labeling of genetically engineered food.

Genetically engineered foods Only 40% of people in the U.S. know that some of the foods they are buying and eating are genetically modified (GM).

The U. S. may soon be the only country in the world which does NOT require labeling of genetically engineered food.

The patenting of genetically engineered foods and widespread biotech food production threatens to eliminate farming as it has been practiced for the past 12,000 years.

The U.S. media has not covered the disturbing public health questions raised by Dr. Arpad Pusztai's research into genetically engineered potatoes. Genetic engineering continues to receive a clean bill of health by United States' regulatory agencies despite the fact that no independent, government-supported research has been or is being conducted into the effects of genetically engineered foods on mammals
