How The Rich Are Winning
You may have been hearing a lot of doom and gloom about the economy recently.

OK, so the news on jobs, real estate and retail sales has been dismal. Yes, maybe it's true the middle class is broke, in debt, under water, out of work and in despair.

But look on the bright side. One group of people is doing just fine. The rich.

1. well if masses of The Poor eat the few The Rich
The Poor will be just as hungry tomorrow.

God I hate both of those terms. Thuh. Rich. Anybody who makes more money than I do. Or, the ultra uberwealthy. Or, anyone who doesn't have to work for a living. It's all over the board.

I suppose to the mythical "Rich" anybody who is not them is poor.

There will always be people more or less fortunate and more or less deserving of their fortune, good or bad. What are the real ills of the world? It's not the existence of sharks in the ocean, or the people who feed them or the people who eat them.

Venting is fine, but it's not productive.

3. nothing substantive, although cute as a button.
God DU should have SOME standards for membership other than cuteness though. Like intellect and insightful dialogue.

4. i shall invoke the lord almighty as well. hear me, o lord
what is the intellectual substance of a stochastic resignation to all social injustice as the natural order?
is that insightful and productive for someone? who?

5. still cute.
it was more of a zen like heuristic than a stochastic resignation.

But if you want to go kill all the sharks instead of resigning stochastically . . .

My point dear mini-nannersammich is this: social injustice is not caused by "the rich" but by many other factors and if the rich were gone those factors would still exist. That's just observation, not resignation.

6. that is more clear
please indulge me once more
illness is not caused by cancer but by many other factors and if cancer were gone those factors would still exist
does that sound reasonable and helpful or more like i am just defending cancer for some special reason?

7. reasonable and helpful
although to be fair I am frequently accused of defending cancer for some bizarre reason. If the goal is to get rid of cancer because it is the single biggest cause of illness, and not in fact an illness itself, then it would be reasonable and helpful to kill cancer and not worry about any other illness.

Obscene wealth is an emergent property of economic policy, not a cause of poverty.

Okay I invoke satan: more people who live at the poverty level tend to have cancer. If we get rid of the poor we will cure cancer.

8. economic policy is the property of obscene wealth
what is a cause of poverty?
not individual ruin, but widespread poverty
if poverty in the usa can be prevented, is the cause not neglect on top of injustice?
who is responsible for injustice and neglect?
is economic policy not the tool of those responsible?
what makes them unjust, uncaring and dismissive?
eat the rich, like a big ole nannersammich

9. I don't know. What makes native americans (fill in the blank)
big old alcoholics?

Generalizing in the accusative is not productive. Observing that poverty and despair contributes to alcoholism is not the thing as saying being native american causes alcoholism. Sorry I couldn't be more poetic in the delivery of that, but you almost had a good point if you dismissed the class generalization and talked about more than just the rich being responsible for injustice and neglect.

I certainly believe that more than just being native american contributes to higher rates of alcoholism than in the wider community, otherwise you'd be offended, and I'd still be wrong.
