“Living in a Post-BP-Spill World”
“We’re living in a post-9/11 world now”, was the mantra of George W. Bush and the rest of the Republicans...

The American Left should do the same with the BP oil spill. Shame on us? Not if we stay on topic. The BP oil spill has everything to do with energy policy, environmentalism, and my personal favorite, corporate corruption...

We are now living in a post-BP-oil-spill world. To not consider this event as a line of demarcation, where future discussions of all related issues are considered in its context, would be simply foolish.

2. i second the thought, though it's neither a "spill" nor "post"
if and when they manage to stop it up, then we can call it "post".

and massive, uncontrolled spewings of oil are usually called "gushers".

it is true that any industrial effort with even the potential to do anything like this level of ecological harm needs to have SERIOUS, PROVEN, AUDITED, and INSPECTED backup plans. airplanes aren't allowed to fly unless all their redundant systems are working properly, and the damage they can do is generally limited to a couple hundred people on board and a perhaps few extremely unlucky souls underneath. the same should be true for something like underwater drilling.

to the extent that we have no real change from this event, it will prove clearly that sufficiently rich corporations are beyond the reach of nations and that the entire concept of nations controlling the world has passed and the rule of corporations must be recognized.
