Militia arrests point to return of armed patriot groups

For OpEdNews: Teresa Albano - Writer

FBI raids on suspected militia members over the weekend jolted a public already concerned about far-right violence that surfaced during the health care reform fight.

Nine suspected members of a "Christian" militia group have been charged with seditious conspiracy, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction and other related charges, federal prosecutors announced March 29.

The nine are from Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, where federal raids took place over the weekend.

The indictment names a militia group called the Hutaree as conspiring to oppose the U.S. government by force. The group was planning a double attack on local law enforcement, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The Hutaree says it is preparing to fight the "antichrist" until death. On its web site, links to training videos and Biblical-like rants can be found along with a banner across the page telling its members: "Training April 24 contact headquarters immediately."

1. If these people have committed the crimes -
- they are implicitly accused of they deserve to be prosecuted.

"The Hutaree says it is preparing to fight the "antichrist" until death. On its web site, links to training videos and Biblical-like rants can be found along with a banner across the page telling its members: 'Training April 24 contact headquarters immediately.'" But I don't seen anything illegal here.

Preparing to fight the "anti-Christ" is not illegal, it's crazy, but not illegal. Biblical rants and banners are not illegal.

I want to know what crimes these people have perpetrated.

2. To be sure...
...it's not illegal to prepare to fight the Antichrist. It is, however, highly illegal to plot to kill police officers in the hopes of bringing about the Apocalypse. These nutjobs are now exactly where they belong. The more of them who are arrested, the better I sleep at night.

3. Yes. But -
- please tell us how you know these people were actually plotting to do that? What evidence have you seen or heard?

The United States routinely strategizes on invading every other significant nation on Earth, including Canada. It is called hypothetical research in the interest of national defense. It does not mean the U.S. is planning to invade Canada.

You and I could discuss robbing a bank, or assassinating some public figure for some corrupt action. We have a Constitutional right to do that. But until we set about to lay some actual plan to go ahead and do those things we've broken no laws. An hypothesis is not a plan.

So until you have seen some evidence of an actual plot I respectfully suggest that you remember what happened at Waco, TX, back in '93. A lot of charges were made against those people, too. And if you'd like to know more about that, go here:

4. I'm sorry, but...
...I'm not privy to the evidence that the FBI has collected. If they are innocent, they will be exonerated in court. If the accusations turn out to be true (and it is not unreasonable to consider this), then I'm happy they were caught before they could do damage. If the FBI had been on the ball with Roeder, Dr. Tiller could perhaps still be alive.

5. You are the first
person on the DU forum I have seen defend these domestic terrorists. Either you are not who you say you are, or you have not seriously studied the information regarding their plot to kill police officers & their willingness to carry through with their plan.

6. Have you studied the information?
If so, please direct me to your source.

As far as I know there hasn't been any specific information aside from names, photos and accusations. If you know more, tell us what it is.
