Armed Militas, The Antichrist, and Obama

That armed militias in the midwest were preparing for an actual battle with agents of the Antichrist is not a surprise. Fear mongering has become epidemic on the political right. Why now? Since the millennium comes at the end of the Tribulations, its approach is constantly expected, and not necessarily tied to any specific date. So warnings that Obama is either the Antichrist or in service to the Satanic plan to build a New World Order are taken seriously by some fundamentalist Christians.

The apocalyptic starting gun for the race to prepare for a battle with the Antichrist was fired in 1970 by Hal Lindsey whose book The Late Great Planet Earth has sold over 19 million copies. Lindsey argued that the end times had arrived and that Christians should watch for the signs of the times. While not all fundamentalists agreed with his specific analysis of Biblical prophecy, a significant number agree that the end times have either begun or are imminent.

The mainstreaming of millennialism received a major boost when, in 1983, Ronald Reagan cited scriptural authority to demonize the Soviet Union as an evil empire. Sara Diamond wrote of the influence of apocalyptic thinking on the new Christian Right in her prescient 1989 book, Spiritual Warfare. In her study The Religious Right and Israel: The Politics of Armageddon, Ruth W. Mouly showed how certain sectors of the Christian right mobilized tremendous support for the State of Israel during the Reagan Administration, in part because they believed Jews had to return to Israel before the prophecies of Revelation could be fulfilled.

Lamy argues that millennialism has many sources, but generally can be tied to societal conflict and resistance to change. On the other hand, Fuller argues that apocalyptic fervor is complex, and part of a "literary and theological tradition," that is "transmitted through a variety of cultural institutions that are relatively immune" to certain "social or economic forces."

1. Silly gits have misunderstood the Antichrist, completely
The Antichrist isn't a person, it's people who preach the opposite of what Christ taught and that would be the religious right.

Our job is to keep them away from power, since their whole focus is to start the nuclear holocaust in an attempt to knock Jebus off his heavenly throne and force him to come back to rapture them out of the shitstorm they cause.

That's the bottom line with these loons, it's a death cult taken to its extreme.

2. However, the Fundamentalists (those who believe in the literal
translation of the bible and the bible is INFAllIBLE,)
do hold that the anti-Christ is a person. One of the
Fundamentalist Guru's Televangelist, VamImpe has spent
the entire Bush Administration preaching the"Prophesy".
I mention Bush Administration because this particular
Preacher was one of Ministers who had a direct pipeline
to the WH during the Administration.

He has predicted the Rapture, Tribulations and the Seconn
Coming will start in 2012. (Unless, he has adjusted
this recently). Have not watched him as of late.

VanImpe very cleverly ties the end times with a New World
Order--UN Dominated World. We will have micro-chips
inserted (Mark of the beast) and World Government Leaders
can track our every move. Hey, McVeigh believed he had
a Micro-chip implanted while he was in the Military and
this was part of the plan.

If you believe the end is near, and you will be struggling
against a one world government led by a Charasmatic Anti-Christ, then you might stockpile guns and practice military maneuvers as a means of self-preservation.

I followed the Van Impe show in order to understand where
these Americans are coming from. Reverend Hagee preaches
much of this but his emphasis is on being a "friend" to
Israel. He vascillates between Obama as the Anti-Christ
and Ahmadenijahd as Anti-Christ.

3. My fundie family
started the countdown when Israel became a state.
Now they're just counting the minutes til Jesus arrives.
I've told my mom all along that the Rapture is not a retirement plan.
I have Plan B...
Many of these fundamentalists don't, and IMO the political whipping up
of the greatest fear of the fundies is totally anti-Christ.

4. GOP appealing to their base, again.

Except that the GOP inciters think it IS in their interest to get people scared of the "boogey-man" (however defined).

Boehner: "this will be Armageddon"

Judd Gregg: "it's a socialist take-over"

Palin: "death panels to kill your grandma"

.. about a Health Care Bill which is very similar to the Chaffey bill supported by REpublicans in 93, with an INsurance Exchange ... a Republican idea,... with 200 Republican amendments.

Palin: "Don't retreat, reload!" ... oh, yeah, she said that's just a metaphor. Yeah, a metaphor for violence in place of civilized discourse.
