The media myth of Obama's "falling poll numbers"

For OpEdNews: Eric Boehlert - Writer

The release of an Associated Press poll last week that showed President Obama enjoying a healthy job approval rating of 53 percent didn't generate much news beyond the wire service and produced even less commentary among the media's chattering class. Then again, neither did another piece of polling news from January, which showed Obama basking in the glow of a 56 percent job approval rating.

The cold shoulder was expected, though. Why? It's simple: the results didn't fit the script.

Adopting the polar opposite narrative from the Bush era when pundits and reporters seemed obsessed with trying to boost the president's standing, Beltway scribes today have made it plain that when it comes to Obama and polling, good news is no news.

Feeding off right-wing talking points, political journalists love to push the idea that Obama's polling numbers are in the tank and that he's fading fast. It's all part of the preferred, CW narrative that his entire presidency is slipping away. (It must now be "save," according to Newsweek.)

1. They had the same "good news is no news" when Shrub was in
only they ignored it when his ratings were in the twenties. See? Fair and Balanced! :puke:

2. This country is doomed. The myth that this country is right leaning is wrong. When
you have the MSM not doing their job what the hell do you expect. Where are the protesters in the TX book scandal? I am willing to bet you will have the south winning the war between the states in a few years and evolution will not be taught in school. Your children will be given the creation side only as fact. Forget science folks you are going to have nothing but a theocracy running this country unless you stand up. I am old it will be up to you all. Start fighting back and stand up to the media who is lying.

3. Important post. The GOP Echo Chamber's partisan duplicities need to be documented. thanks!
I have also wondered what kind of job approval ratings did other presidents get in the midst of a depression (or recession). To normalize the statistic you need to compare to job approvals in periods of similar economic conditions. They could do this. The fact that they haven't done this leads one to wonder if Obama would look even better if they did.
