Rising jobless claims reflect weakening recovery
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON – Layoffs are no longer dropping as they were in the final months of last year, reinforcing fears that the jobs crisis will weigh down consumer spending and the economic rebound.

Severe weather contributed to a rise in jobless claims last week. But other economic data add to evidence that the recovery remains weak and uneven.

An example is orders for big-ticket manufactured goods, excluding airplanes and other transportation equipment. Those orders dropped 0.6 percent in January, the government said Thursday.

Earlier in the week, new-home sales fell in January to their lowest pace on record. And consumer confidence plunged in February.

6. The well-off and plutocracy are doing just fine, tyvm.
The highest group, with household incomes of $150,000 or more, had an unemployment rate during that quarter of 3.2 percent. The next highest, with incomes of $100,000 to 149,999, had an unemployment rate of 4 percent.

Contrast those figures with the unemployment rate of the lowest group, which had annual household incomes of $12,499 or less. The unemployment rate of that group during the fourth quarter of last year was a staggering 30.8 percent. That’s more than five points higher than the overall jobless rate at the height of the Depression.

The next lowest group, with incomes of $12,500 to $20,000, had an unemployment rate of 19.1 percent.

Oh that's right, that's where millions of our jobs went over the last two decades. The jobs we sent overseas are the one that historically recover first during a recovery.

I'm beginning to think some people WANT to live in a Third World Country, and all the special privileges and advantages that come along with it.

The American People have gone Terminally Insane with Denial.

An Asteroid could hit the Planet, and they would believe the Spin that it is "One more indicator that The Economy is Recovering." :eyes:

14. This is an American trait
We're stupidly optimistic. Oh, and it's a good thing in my opinion (if you have to ask why, then you don't understand this country.)

16. No It isn't a good thing when it's part of the PROBLEM.
Edited on Thu Feb-25-10 10:39 PM by TheWatcher
When you are stupidly Optimistic to the point of completely ignoring reality, it is a HARMFUL thing.

When you can't even face what the problems are, and you are incompletely in denial about the lack of leadership and representation being given to the people by their government, and you attack anyone who DARES to shed light on it because it interferes with your carefully constructed false paradigm that makes you feel good so that you don't have to hurt your beautiful mind with reality, you are part of the PROBLEM, not the SOLUTION.

And when you have the gall to tell people they don't understand their OWN COUNTRY, because they don't share the same false, distorted view of reality that you do, it's not stupidly optimistic.

It's just plain STUPID.

These days, you seem to only value the maintenance of the Status Quo of the Party Line, Fake Kabuki Political Theater, and whatever distortion of reality you can cling to make you feel good, and "Hope For The Future."

I have no doubt that somewhere inside you, there is a decent, well meaning, critical thinking person.

I just wish he would show himself once in awhile.

Now, I'm sure you won't see this unless you just can't resist taking me off ignore for the 3,067th time just so you can get in a meaningless insult, and since you certainly don't have any kind of thoughtful reply to provide in the name of intelligent discourse, if you don't mind, could we please continue the discussion without this jingoistic condescension?

Nothing against you, of course. :)
