Podesta: The Health Of America's Political System 'Sucks'
Ben Frumin | February 16, 2010, 9:19AM

Center For American Progress President John Podesta, a former White House Chief of Staff under Bill Clinton, told the Financial Times that the health of the American political system "sucks."

I think the president is trying to re-engage with Republicans, but, quite frankly, he's not dealing with the party of Lincoln. He's dealing with the party of Palin.

He also declared that intensified partisanship has made America "in essence, a parliamentary system without majority rule."

Podesta also said that President Obama has lost control of the political narrative.

"My friends in the White House would agree with this, that they lost the narrative," he said. "Clearly that needs not one speech once in a while: it needs, I think, to be constantly reinforced. And not just by the president, but by his entire team . . . He's got a terrific cabinet. Use it. Get out into the country and use it."
