Sarah Palin Draws Raves from David Broder
Edited on Thu Feb-11-10 02:51 PM by grassfed
Just when you thought American politics could not possibly sink to lower depths of self parody, Sarah Palin’s address to the Tea Party-whack set is belatedly endorsed today by the Dean of American Journalism, the neocon of neocons, the Washington Post’s David Broder.

Broder was an cheerleader for the Bush-Cheney regime, heaping praise on Bush’s grand design for democracy as evidenced by … Bush’s speeches. He writes that Palin’s address “was not the first time that Palin has impressed me.”

His column is gushing inanity, devoid of policy and substance and concluding, “Those who want to stop her will need more ammunition than deriding her habit of writing on her hand. The lady is good.”

Here’s some political ammo: Sarah Palin is an ignoramus without the slightest understanding of major policy spheres. Sarah Palin is an Evangelical Zionist clown, catering to the right-wingers in Israel who want America to engage in war without end in the region known as the Middle-East. Sarah Palin is anti-choice and a statist reactionary.

An ignorant, militaristic clown is the perfect Broder candidate.

2. I wouldn't piss on Broder if he were on fire.
He is perhaps one the smarmiest pieces of shit in the business. He has much blood on his hands.

3. Sarah Palin, Israel and Armageddon
Sarah Palin remarked to Barbara Walters last week that she believes "more and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead." Pundits are scratching their heads wondering what she meant. Could it have been a subtle "dogwhistle" allusion to a belief held by some evangelical Christians about the apocalypse? A faction of American Christian Zionists support the exodus of all Jews to Israel because they believe it would trigger the second coming of Christ and the end of the world. It may have simply been an awkwardly phrased sentence on Palin's part, but it gave these bloggers an opportunity to dig into the implications of this belief.

Palin and the Grahams Spencer Ackerman wasn't sure until Palin started meeting with prominent evangelicals Billy and Franklin Graham.
Christian Zionists represent a pretty sizable bloc within the Republican coalition and could, say, help someone win a presidential nomination were someone so inclined. Palin’s apparently eschatological comment doesn’t appear to be an accident. The Charlotte Observer reports that she’s taking dinnertime advice on Israel from the Graham family.

The Rev. Billy Graham is a credit to this country <... his son> Franklin Graham is a much different story. A Christian Zionist leader, Franklin has described Islam as 'a very evil and wicked religion' and suggested erroneously that the Christian God and the Muslim God are two different deities. He even asked President Obama on the campaign trail if he was a Muslim.
Evangelism and Israel Matthew Yglesias worries about evangelism's sway on conservative foreign policy, especially with regards to Israel.

I don’t want to make too big a deal about this, but given the tendency of U.S. politicians to avowedly claim religious grounding for their political beliefs I do think somewhat more scrutiny needs to be given to the issue of the extent to which evangelical figures are letting their policy views be driven by apocalyptic scenarios. John Hagee of Christians United for Israel, for example, supports preventive military strikes on Iran that he believes will lead to Israel's destruction at the hands of a Russo-Arab alliance.

6. I've been talking about this for a while...
...it's hard to stir up interest in it. If you google the "Rapture" and the "Tribulation" and read about the bizarre beliefs of these people, it all starts to fall into place. I often wondered when I was young, why does the Republican party, and the right in general, care so much about Israel and the Jews when every other aspect of their platform is racist, sexist and intolerant of other religions.

It's because of the belief in the "Second Coming" and the "Rapture" scenarios that require an intact Israel in order to transpire. The same logic applies to Climate Change. I could never understand how right-wingers could be so against any attempts to save the environment. The scenario of the "Rapture" leaves the Earth obsolete-with everyone, living and dead, evacuated from the earth after the "end times", what do you need a viable, livable planet for?

These people are more dangerous then many people realize.

5. Broder just showed his ass...
Corporate shill and hack writer should now forever darken any byline of his in the future.

Anyone of anything approaching non-moron level IQs (and NOT wearing ideological blinders or carrying water for those who do) can see her for what she is - a complete rube with no more business in the conversation to lead this country than the women on those inane 'real housewife' shows.

Thank you David for clearly letting us all know what category you belong in...
