White House 'tried to block film'
The White House tried to halt the making and release of Michael Moore's new film Fahrenheit 9/11, the film-maker alleged in Cannes on Sunday.
The director told a Cannes audience the Bush administration wanted to keep the film off screens in the run-up to November's US election.

The film examines the Iraq war and alleges connections between the Bush and Bin Laden families.

Fahrenheit 9/11 is to get its world premiere in Cannes on Monday.

Film studio Disney had backed out of a deal to distribute the film in the US for political reasons, Moore says

1. Oh Lordy...
I suppose he's just speaking figuratively. This could sound bad if he's just blowing it out of his ass.

If he's being literal and he has proof - Oh baby!

8. I saw another article where he named the names.
He named the executive at Disney who got the call and the person in the WH who made the call.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read the names somewhere.

I don't think More would give names of people unless he was sure the info was true.

12. Too much to lose, at this point.
The reason people tend to listen to him seriously is because they trust him to be telling him the truth. If he ever deliberately misled people, he would lose ALL his supporters.

I hope this movie is a total triumph, really HUGE. I also hope he's going to take total care of his security. He'll be needing to do that.

4. Oh I don't doubt that it could be true...
it's just if he had some kinda proof, even just an off the cuff remark, that would be so, so sweet!

Can't wait to see it. Nobody from DU at Cannes???

5. I am looking forward to seeing this film
The fact that Karl Rove does not want this film shown is sufficient reason for me to go see it.

6. from the articLe
The director has already shown the film at test screenings in the Midwest of the US.

"The reaction was overwhelming," he said. "People who were on the fence - undecided voters - suddenly weren't on the fence."

No-one from the White House was available to comment on his remarks.

Moore has also revealed that he had three undercover film crews embedded with US troops in Iraq.

"I was able to sneak three different freelance crews into Iraq," he said on Saturday.

The soldiers had "expressed disillusionment that they had been lied to", said Moore.

The film from Iraq was a "very important" part of the documentary, he added.

"It is certainly something the Bush administration does not want people to see," said Moore.

7. I believe it - if Moore made it up, the White House would be all over it
In all of his previous movies, people whined that Moore made stuff up, no one sued him for libel or slander. Truth is a defense and sometimes the truth hurts. Too bad for those loser freepers that don't have enough brains to come up with a legit movie of their own. I'll guess they'll have to settle for the Jerry Falwell Clinton murder mystery. :hippie:

11. Still in production
Ebert's review said that Moore got the right to continue to edit the film right up to its release put into his contract. I can see the film being made all the more powerful by the inclusion of the recent torture/abuse scandal.

15. Hey, we could do a whole MN DUer road trip!
I was thinking the same thing myself earlier today, that if it isn't released in the U.S., maybe I'd just plan a trip over the border to see it. :D

someone said it will be released around July 4th. Don't know if that's accurate.
