1. A detailed report that fails to answer the obvious question as to why
Kandahar has any significance at all to anybody except to those who are unfortunate enough to have to live there.

2. I found this part interesting.

"To a large extent the power of President Karzai depends upon government control in Kandahar. If the province is lost to the Taliban, that will be a major blow to his government and to his influence as well. I think to some extent for the last 200 years you've seen Afghanistan sort of follow Kandahar. Given both the Taliban and the Karzai family's roots in Kandahar I think you'll see a very similar phenomena this time around."
