Saudis ask for aid if world cuts dependence on oil
(o, so we bail them out, too?!)

more: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/energy/6657947.html

BANGKOK — There are plenty of needy countries at the U.N. climate talks in Bangkok that make the case they need financial assistance to adapt to the impacts of global warming. Then there are the Saudis.

Saudi Arabia has led a quiet campaign during these and other negotiations — demanding behind closed doors that oil-producing nations get special financial assistance if a new climate pact calls for substantial reductions in the use of fossil fuels.

That campaign comes despite an International Energy Agency report released this week showing that OPEC revenues would still increase $23 trillion between 2008 and 2030 — a fourfold increase compared to the period from 1985 to 2007 — if countries agree to significantly slash emissions and thereby cut their use of oil.

4. How about having your people come into this century and open
your country to development which includes more than oil.

It is called looking to the future and planning ahead.

8. Think Ahead Idiots!
If they were the type that thought ahead, they wouldn't be sending suicide bombers to terrorize people. They have ENOUGH money and they spend plenty of that on crazies to kill people. Perhaps they should then let their women be educated and try to build factories to manufacture things. I really wish we would just invade, seize the oil, and then enjoy having drastically cut oil prices

7. Sorry, I still remember the 1970s
And I think it time for OAEC (Organization of Aid-Exporting Countries) to say, "Sorry, we're cutting back on aid production..."

Maybe the Saudis will have to stand in long lines waiting for rationed aid each day? Maybe they'll shout at each other, cut each other off, and wave guns in the air?

11. If they were smart, they would redirect profits from oil revenue to solar energy,
transmission, superconductivity and storage, they have an abundant amount of life giving sun light in addition to their vast quantities of toxic oil reserves.

They should think of themselves as an energy exporting nation not an oil exporting nation, change or die; that goes for virtually everyone on the planet.

Thanks for the thread, katty.

14. Next thing you know we'll be seeing 60-second spots on prime-time teevee with skinny
Saudi tots with sandy, tear-streaked faces pleading for help from the rich Americans. I'll probably start crying and reach for my credit card.

Or maybe my shotgun.
