Boy, Oh, Boy -- Some people just can’t believe a black man is president & will never accept it
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 08:40 PM by Elmore Furth
I have seen the coded insults about Obama long enough to realize that many people consider him "not one of us." Pretty disgusting in the 21st Century by those who have not left the atitudes of the last one.

Joe Wilson said, "I will not be muzzled." That certainly places him in the Dog Wing of the Republican Party along with Sara (pit bull) Palin. As a former aide to Strom Thurmond, he learned his southern racial baiting well. I wonder if he enjoys the dog fights?

"Anyone who hates children and animals can't be all bad."
WC Fields

The congressman (Joe Wilson), we learned, belonged to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, led a 2000 campaign to keep the Confederate flag waving above South Carolina’s state Capitol and denounced as a “smear” the true claim of a black woman that she was the daughter of Strom Thurmond, the ’48 segregationist candidate for president. Wilson clearly did not like being lectured and even rebuked by the brainy black president presiding over the majestic chamber.

I’ve been loath to admit that the shrieking lunacy of the summer — the frantic efforts to paint our first black president as the Other, a foreigner, socialist, fascist, Marxist, racist, Commie, Nazi; a cad who would snuff old people; a snake who would indoctrinate kids — had much to do with race.

But Wilson’s shocking disrespect for the office of the president — no Democrat ever shouted “liar” at W. when he was hawking a fake case for war in Iraq — convinced me: Some people just can’t believe a black man is president and will never accept it.

Boy, Oh, Boy

1. There are 30 million of them and they are not going to change.
It is up to us to fight back and not depend on Obama to do everything. Think about this the next time you talk to a right wing nut.

2. Very true

"For two centuries, the South has feared a takeover by blacks or the feds. In Obama, they have both."

"“We have a lot of people who really think that the world’s against us,” Fowler said, “so when things don’t happen the way we like them to, we blame outsiders.” He said a state legislator not long ago tried to pass a bill to nullify any federal legislation with which South Carolinians didn’t agree. Shades of John C. Calhoun!"

So, South Carolina: Give us Stephen Colbert and the rest of your Democrats, and secede already.

5. Next time you post someone's published column
As a courtesy, you might want to include the author's name and the publication in your post, not just a link that doesn't give any clue.

For those who haven't clicked on the link -- I didn't but I found the essay posted elsewhere with the author and source cited -- this is Maureen Dowd's column from the NYT.

7. its taken hundreds of year's to get to this point
these things will not disappear in a day. There was no doubt going to be a reaction to having Barack Obama as president. The key thing is a continuation of the good fight. This has been made a little harder with the proliferation of Hate radio, Faux, etc. But the good and the decent will triumph in the end.
