Are you mad yet? You should be. Glenn Beck has now http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-chang/%3Ca">taken down Yosi Sergant, the second hip-hop activist to be forced to leave the Obama administration in a week.

Last night the 34-year old communications director at the National Endowment For The Arts was asked to resign. Why? Because he was trying to organize artists to support President Obama's national service program, http://www.serve.gov/">United We Serve. If your next question is: so what? That was ours too. But Glenn Beck compared the effort to "Nazi propaganda".

(Just sick--especially since Sergant, a Jewish American, has worked as an activist for peace in the Israel-Palestinian conflict.)

This was the same logic paleocons used to batter Obama's school speech. If he does it, it's indoctrination. If they do it, it's "journalism". But http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-chang/the-new-shape-of-the-cult_b_282462.html">there's much more to this story...

2. I'm not commenting on the substance, but people need to stop saying "Jewish American"
They could say "Sergant, who is Jewish" or something like that. I don't know why people started applying the hypenated-American thing to Jews, but I wish they would stop.

4. Got news for you
That hyphenated-American thing has been applied to African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Arab-Americans, and now Jewish-Americans!

How about we take your request one step further and quit hyphenating all Americans?

5. I know. But I have been operating under the assumption that African-American
was the term that community wanted applied to it, and that using it was a sign of respect for their wishes. Saying that someone is an Arab generally signifies someone who is actually from one of the Arab states, so I can see why "Arab-American" would be a useful term when talking about people of Arab extraction who live in this country. Just being Jewish doesn't have any such connotation. I think if you are talking about someone who works in the White House and say "he is Jewish", people will leave it at that.
