Bill Moyers Journal Friday, Aug 21st had another great report on the rationing of health care as it currently is done in America based on ability to pay. The report details the stories of three people who had health insurance but lost it due to changes in employment situation or because it was just too expensive for them.
Not being able to afford health care purchased outside of a group plan they went without. ONe of the three needed back surgery and he lucked out and got the difficult procedure done with the costs picked up for him. The other two? Well,,, they weren't quite so lucky.
Of course the story doesn't end with the deaths of the two unlucky ones. After the loss of their loved ones the surviving spouses are still faced with staggering medical debts. A real
fun story. Death by Profit Motive: Rationing health care by ability to pay.
They really should show this report at the beginning of all the Town Hall meetings for all the hysterics who are worried about fantasy boogie men. Of course, those who
choose hysteria and histrionics over fantasy "issues" are doing this to
avoid facing reality, so it probably would have no effect on them.
