President Obama in pictures: Fatherhood and Mentoring Barbecue at White House
Short Excerpt from article, go here for text of Obama's speech.

President Obama began a national conversation about the importance of fatherhood by holding a Fatherhood and Mentoring Town hall meeting in the East Room of the White House June, 19, 2009, followed by a "Young Mens Barbecue" on the South Lawn of the White House for students from local area schools. The president and involved fathers from a variety of backgrounds shared stories about fatherhood and personal responsibility.

1. One of the things I like most about Obama
Is his devotion to his family. He's a great role model in that regard.

2. I liked what he said in a speech
about fatherhood..."this is not a responsibility, it's a privilege."

If only more people saw it that way.

3. I think that he's in a position to speak from the heart on this subject....
"And I say this as someone who grew up without a father in my own life. I had a heroic mom and wonderful grandparents who helped raise me and my sister, and it's because of them that I'm able to stand here today. But despite all their extraordinary love and attention, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t feel my father's absence. That's something that leaves a hole in a child’s heart that a government can't fill."

12. In another thread on this topic,
a poster pointed out that the logo on Obama's apron, was the standard White House one rather than the Presidential Seal (as you-know-who would have worn!)

5. Man, if only I weren't childfree
I would be hovering around Obama telling him exactly how to grill my steak/hamburger/hotdog just for bragging rights.

10. Pic #6 Obama is disapproving of Flay's BBQ skills.
He does tend to char the hell out of everything on a too youn fire. He needs to slow down.

11. What wonderful role models both he and Joe Biden are!
And how great it is to promote genuine fatherhood and personal responsibility instead of merely siring children and having "rights" to them!

Fatherhood is indeed a privilege. :applause:

14. Yes, Happy Father's Day to all of you good Dads out there!
I know, it's not until what...tomorrow or is it next weekend? Since my own father died, I've become curiously deaf to the date of the event.
