A Message from a White Male to the African American Community.
Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 06:52 PM by DrWeird
This little gem was published in my school newspaper last friday.

"My point, however, is this: There is a lack of morality in the black community because African American leaders, whether Jesse Jackson or the NAACP, choose to rally around minorities who seem to have little quality characteristics about them."

The shit hit the fan monday. I just thought some DUer's would like to see it. Feel free to e-mail the editors if you'd like.

1. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have been demonized enough!
Why the hell is it that the REAL BIGOTS without morals, such as
"Fat" Pat Robertson and "Apartheid" Jerry Falwell can do and say horrible things and get away with it. Why don't we call out this POS about that!!!!!

2. I used to teach at Oregon State, and I'm appalled but not surprised
Back in the 1980s, a huge percentage of the students were on ROTC scholarship and receiving thorough brainwashing into Republican "values." Many others seemed to be frat rats, with all that designation implies.

(No disrespect meant to the many wonderful students I knew at OSU.)

3. This boy is a perfect demonstration
Of what racism means.

For this privileged white boy, each and every black person represents the whole entire black race (and the only black people he knows are in "government, entertainment or sports"). Why is that? When Bush acts like an idiot, is it a reflection on all white people? If it were, we'd be in deep shit.

And this boy proves it -- that this is exactly what racism is. He forgets all about Scott Peterson, Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, etc. etc. etc. Oh, then there's Robert Blake, Joe Scarborough, Timothy McVeigh . . .

John Ashcroft, Donald Rumsfeld . . .

4. As a black person...
...this article seeems to be pretty much on point. This is an historic moment for the AA community, as we are faced with the proposal of not marching in lockstep behind each and every black face we see. I have had many conversations with black people who think that Condi Rice did fabulously before the commission. When asked if they thought she was being truthful, they say no. That's a problem.

Michael Eric Dyson, professor and author, a "public intellectual", has a quote from George Orwell. It's this: "Intelligence is not indexed by ones capacity to deploy english in eloquent phrase". Meaning, one could be speaking perfect english, and lying thorugh their teeth.

This is part of the problem. Before her testimony, one must looks at all the comments and pre-summations of her ability to perform in this setting. "Poised". "Articulate". "Self-assured". This came from White and black people. From White people, because some of them are still astonished to see a black woman operate at this level. From black people to mitigate their shame regarding our past.

6. Well, I sure hope he feels how negatively Bush reflects on him too.
All those white criminals make white people look like crooks.
And how come do white people almost always vote for white people?
