Analysis: GOP relishes Guantanamo victory
The Senate vote to block transfer of detainees comes as a rebuke to Obama

WASHINGTON - Republicans have searched for a good political issue this year as their traditional three Gs — gays, guns and God — seem to have lost some steam. Now a fourth G — Guantanamo Bay — is handing them a big victory, forcing President Barack Obama to reconsider his plans to close the Cuba-based prison, with no obvious alternative in sight.

One of Obama's first acts as president was to order the closing within a year of the contentious lockup for terror suspects. Obama had campaigned on the issue, but important Republicans pounced on what they considered a crucial flaw: the lack of detailed plans for where the roughly 240 inmates would go.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, for example, gave dozens of speeches and interviews saying the United States would be no safer by moving terrorists to U.S. soil. Other Republicans suggested terrorists might escape, recruit new allies or become magnets for attacks.

Ill-timed rebuke for Obama
Democratic lawmakers largely ignored the remarks for months, but by this week the public agitation was too much. The Senate voted 90-6 Wednesday to block the transfer of Guantanamo detainees, an ill-timed rebuke for Obama, scheduled to give a major speech Thursday about terrorism.

1. Harry Reid showed his true blue colors on this issue
All previous rumors, claiming that his spine was slightly less substantial than a marshmellow or a less stable than a water balloon, were all proved true. If the senate had a real leader, the crap that the itty bitty Gee oh, PEE pulled would have been taken down with one senate speech. But Reid didn't go there. Instead, with every election, with every victory, Reid keeps moving the line of what we need to get real reform passed.

Reid needs to go, now more than ever. Having a GOPer in his stead would at least clear most of his smoke and shit out of the air. but with his constant prefernce of GOp policies and positions, he is fucking over our country and damaging this presidency.

2. Truth be told
He AND Pelosi are Obama's two main enemies, even more so than Rush. Everybody knows Rush is a fool, but Pelosi and Reid will do everything they can to keep things as they are, which is one reason why Obama is not stupid enough to go out on a limb, knowing they both have saws in hand.
