From the Nuremberg Tribunals..Quote of the Day..Dem.com
We must make clear to the Germans that the wrong for which their fallen leaders are on trial is not that they lost the war, but that they started it. And we must not allow ourselves to be drawn into a trial of the causes of the war, for our position is that no grievances or policies will justify resort to aggressive war. It is utterly renounced and condemned as an instrument of policy.
Robert L. Jackson, Chief U.S. Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Tribunals, 13-Mar-03

1. Quote of yesterday:
Edited on Tue Apr-06-04 07:23 PM by Dirk39
"Principle IV
The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him."
http://deoxy.org/wc/wc-nurem.htm

This makes every single american soldier responsible for the crimes he's commiting. And the american government has signed the principles of Nuremberg.

But if you ask me: international law will never ever work, in the world we live in. Although Germany had lost the war and was on her knees, our entire elite remained the same. The majority of the people, responsible for Ausschwitz was never ever punished. And no country or institution has the power to held a trial against the USA.

Hello from Germany,
Dirk

2. Robert Jackson's summation before the Nuremberg Tribunal
with its unrelenting moral stance against aggressive war seems such a long time ago; when placed in the context of our country's decline in Vietnam and now, Iraq, that represented America at its very best.
When we could be proud that our soldiers were fighting against evil and all their sacrifices were well worth it.After having condemned aggressive war, we now stand before the world talking about a war of
preemption which, George McGovern has correctly called it by its true name-- Aggression. That we have adopted the Goebbelsian tactic of lying to our people to support the war on Iraq, a country that never was a threat to us, imminent or otherwise, makes our decline
more galling.

During the Vietnam Era, men of the stature of Bertrand Russell held
a Nuremberg like Tribunal to bring charges against Johnson, Rusk,
McNamara and others for war crimes. Now we have nothing. In the words of Sen.Byrd we have only silence. Our moral dissolution in a matter of thirty odd years is complete.
