In Support of Eric Holder by Joseph McMillan The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) supports the nomination of Eric Holder to the post of Attorney General, which would make Holder the first African-American to head the United States Justice Department.
President-elect Obama should be commended for continuing his history-making turn by nominating the first African-American Attorney General. NOBLE looks forward to a close working relationship with Holder and the Justice Department as we strive to develop solutions to the challenges facing law enforcement.
Eric Holder is an exceptional choice for Attorney General. His vast experience as a trial attorney, judge and official in the Clinton administration will bring a strong body of knowledge and expertise to the Justice Department. He began his career in 1976 with the U.S. Justice Department in its Public Integrity Section. In 1988, he was appointed by President Reagan to serve as a Judge of the Superior Court in the District of Columbia. He stepped down from this position in 1993, when he was appointed by President Clinton as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. He was the first African-American U.S. Attorney in that office. In 1997, Holder was appointed Deputy Attorney General. He has been in private practice since 2001, working on many high profile cases.
Holder also played an integral role in President-elect Obama's campaign. In late 2007, he assumed the role of senior legal advisor for the campaign, and was a member of the vice presidential selection committee.
This background and experience provides Holder with the knowledge needed to lead the Justice Department. He has more than 30 years experience, the vast majority of that as a public official. By serving as a trial lawyer, a judge and as Deputy Attorney General, he has gained familiarity with various sides of law enforcement. That's why we look forward to working with Holder to advance issues germane to law enforcement. There are four key issues on which we hope to forge a partnership with Holder and Justice Department officials.
