Stop Censoring International News in America! By Timothy V. Gatto

By Timothy V. Gatto
January 07, 2009 “Information Clearinghouse“

I was preparing for my radio show after watching CBS News with Katie Couric. I already knew that my show was to be about Gaza and the hostilities there. As I read the different stories I became increasingly angry. Why is half of the story always left out of the American Mainstream Media? If I were only getting my news from the MSM, I would believe that Hamas started everything by raining down missiles on hapless Israeli citizens. Is that what some of you reading this believe?

Let me set the record straight. The UN fact finding mission to Gaza has a different story. The people of Gaza (and not just Hamas) have been enduring a blockade on three sides and a navel blockade on their Mediterranean coast. This is a violation of International Law and a blockade is considered to be an act of war by International standards. This means that Israel has been effectively waging war against the Gaza Strip since last September when they were supposedly adhering to a six-month ceasefire. People in Gaza ran short of medical supplies, food and fuel. This was uncalled for and Israel was the prime aggressor. Every time the Security Council tried to deal with this problem the United States cast a veto on any sanctions against Israel.

I really don't get it. Why is this considered such a touchy subject? Darfur is far worse. And we can blab about that any way we please.

Well, by far worse I mean "acute".

16. For sure
It really pisses me off how IP is used as the guillotine. Its a vicious circle trying to post anything that doesn't have the corporate media bias. It just gets punted to IP and then locked and not allowed anywhere else. Democratic "Underground" hah.

2. Another snip...

"...This situation will only correct itself when Americans are offered the truth when it comes to international events. We must demand that the networks and newspapers stop spreading government propaganda and start reporting the truth. Meanwhile if you really want the truth, start reading your news from the internet. This is the last bastion of truth that the people of America have. In every year that passes, our mainstream media becomes more and more like “The Ministry of Truth” in 1984. Those that get their news from the internet realize this and are not happy about it. It is so easily observed in conversations with those that get their news from the mainstream media. The difference in opinion between those that know the full story and those that prefer to “trust” the commercial media is like the difference between night and day. How long did it take to learn that Russia did not attack Georgia first, but that Georgia attacked Russian peacekeepers first with a rocket barrage? There are some Americans out there that STILL think the Russians started that little confrontation. This was a perfect example where the truth was abandoned for political gain. The President-elect and the Vice President-elect both warned about “Russian aggression” at the Democratic National Convention. Frankly, I don’t like to be taken for a sucker..."

8. And most Americans still believe that the Soviets invaded Afghanistan unprovoked
In fact, the existing Marxist government invited them in to crush an Islamic insurgency.

3. The writer speaks for so many of us. What a shame so many are learning this truth
just as the lights are going out on the country's newspapers, a place which had room to print the full stories. It was within the last ten years we started hearing about publishers who had decided to start cutting stories so they didn't take up much room, or require much time reading.

That leaves so much more room for more advertising, and lots of fashion, cooking, travel, etc. features.

From this great commentary posted by Joanne98:
In every year that passes, our mainstream media becomes more and more like “The Ministry of Truth” in 1984. Those that get their news from the internet realize this and are not happy about it. It is so easily observed in conversations with those that get their news from the mainstream media. Who hasn't learned that from becoming acquainted with the most desperate people who show up here to revile and ridicule progressive governments, and politicians. They simply are NOT INFORMED.

What a hideous shame.

Thank you, Joanne98.

5. Tight right-wing media censorship is the only thing that keeps THIS
country from going up in flames. Once the cons lose their hold on the US media, we will soon return to our rightful status as the Greatest Nation.

6. I agree.
Deregulation was enacted just so the Media Blockade could ensue. Consolidation of media ownership in order to consolidate the range of ideas presented.

When the americans in the US are told the truth, from the media the current political "reality" would be overthrown in the worst man able fashion.. Because if the american are shown the truth, nobody in their right mind would possible let it go by as nothing happened. The current american "media" is compatible to what the russians under Soviet rule have to endure.. The Wise one get the news from BBC world service, or Voice of America.. The other who doesn't have that luxury had to read between the lines in the public news, and worked out a pretty good habit on making the right news from the wrong ones the leaders wanted them to "Know" about.. The really smart ones could even find if the economy and the leaders was been replaces, with who the typing of the names, or how they was placed at the May 1 parade in Moskva...

The Gaza situation is bad, very bad, and it is been worsen by the blockade who someone believed to be a smart move to starve out Hamas i looks like..But the Hamas have just grown stronger, and have more sympathy in the palestinian population than ever before.. And the Fatah fraction, have proven them self to be in no petition to be a power who the Israeli at least can talk to.. Corrupt, and morally corrupt in any sense of the word the Fatah have in many Cases doing the Hamas a favour... And PA is divided between the Hamas controlled Gaza, and the Fatah controlled Vest Bank, And for everyone else, both Palestinian and Israeli,it have been a nightmare with no end in sight.. Just war, war and more war where both parts are doing very bad thing.. Israel might have responsibility, because they are the most powerfully part.. But this war we are seeing today, have their roots to the early stages of the new Israel, who was founded in 1948.. And who had to fight every day since. It is not like today, when they have the full support and weapon from the US. Once the Israel had to fend pretty well for them self against Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and the financial help of others, included your friend Saudi Arabia.. At a point where we in Europe, and US was willing to "let thing goes as they goes" when Israel was fighting..

Today the situation is somewhere the lines that Israel have the PA under their thumb, more or less and at the look at it, want to squeeze Hamas once and for all.. I doub it will work were well anyway.. I have no clue how to work this out, even that I have some though about how doing it.. But I doubt it could bee seeing as possible because the situation on the ground is to dangerous, and the sides to great enemies to let it ever happen....
But I really hope one day peace would brake out there to.. Even that I doubt it wil come in our time... The two party is hating the other side with a pure evil passion...

12. If you believe there is such a thing as "death by a thousand cuts",
that's what the corporate media is doing by it's betrayal to informing and enlightening the American People as to the full truth of the critical issues of the day.

Watch how much time they will spend on one chosen murder in the U.S. as compared to events that could and do lead to hundreds or thousands of them.

A democracy can't function effectively, if it's people are deliberately mislead or dumbed down by their sources of information.

Thanks for the thread, Joanne.

15. I haven't seen anyone yet mention how many of the Palestinians seem to be overweight...
or, at least, very well fed. However, before anyone decides to go that route and claim that pictures belay the spin, please remember that it's a poor diet which most often results in obesity, not an over-abundance of healthy, nutritious food.
