Bush Signs Executive Order Barring Union Rights

The order denies collective bargaining rights to about 8,600 federal employees who work in agencies responsible for national security.

U.S. President George W. Bush issued an executive order on Monday that defined the primary objective of some 8,600 federal agency employees to be national security-related, rendering them ineligible for Federal Labor-Management Relations Program coverage such as collective bargaining rights. The order says:

The subdivisions of the Departments of Energy, Homeland Security, Justice, Transportation, and the Treasury set forth in … this order are hereby determined to have as a primary function intelligence, counterintelligence, investigative, or national security work. It is further determined that chapter 71 of title 5, United States Code, cannot be applied to these subdivisions in a manner consistent with national security requirements and considerations.
Among the affected subdivisions are the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Department of Energy's Savannah River Operations Office, and certain offices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Transportation Security Administration, and the US Coast Guard. Of the affected federal employees, approximately 900 were affiliated with a union at the time of the order. A representative of the National Treasury Employees Union said that the collective bargaining groups will work with the Obama administration to overturn the order.

2. "National security" is an excuse for anything I guess.
Pedophilia, drug smuggling, murder, it's all OK as long as "national security" is at stake.
What the fuck good are "values" if they are optional, disposable when inconvenient?

3. It's what they have been using
Since 9/11. 9/11 Gave them all they desired and it's still giving. Everything is about National Security with these clowns. Another reason THEY Bush/Cheney did 9/11.

about 5 years ago and not left until he was in handcuffs. Now it's too late to do anything

5. Unbelievable
I wonder how those employees feel about being screwed over. The very guy that many of them supported in this war he spit in their faces.

7. He's on a Roll...every day a new directive from the Dictator...
and there are articles saying "it will take too long to undo much of it." I'm hoping those articles are from the RW Think Tanks and not our Dems.

9. This puts the kabash on post-term whistle blowers. Nice insurance for the corrupt.
'Cause without union protection, individuals will have trouble speaking out when the evidence is destroyed or the truth evaded.

Only a corrupt government would do this in it's last month. It makes no sense at all to do it so that your administration runs "properly" when your administration is down to a handfull of days in office.

These people really think they're above the law and morality and ethics. They have no fear: It all happens in the light of day.
