Scalia did not have improper relations
http://www.benningtonbanner.com/Stories/0,1413,104~8670~2028477,00.html

Justice Antonin Scalia did not have duck-hunting relations with that vice president, Dick Cheney. So he wrote in a defiant, 21-page memorandum aimed at clearing his name of improper relations with the veep.

<snip>

Well, Scalia is trying to lay the critics to waste with the enlightening memo he penned and released Thursday. He writes that, despite public perception of an above-the-Washington-fray court, many justices hobnob with the politicos. Despite a perception of untarnished impartiality, justices often attend functions and pal around with the other insiders.

His duck-hunting trip with Cheney is no different. Actually it is less ominous than some other personal interactions, he wrote.

He wrote that during Christmas justices gathered at Cheney's home for some personal time. But on the hunting trip he and the veep were with 13 other people, including the vice president's security detail.

Well, I'm convinced now! Convinced that he is incapable of separating himself from the law - because he is the law! Oops - that was Delay - no - Delay is the Federal Government! Bush is America!

GACK!!!!!!

2. "I never hunted in the same blind with the vice president"
Justice Scalia not only justified his participation in the case, he also disclosed new details of the trip. "I never hunted in the same blind with the vice president," he wrote.

I guess that makes the free duck hunting trip OK.

11. "appearance of impropriety"
That defines scalia and cheney's duck hunting trip exactly. Not that scalia would ever admit he did anything wrong. He has the same problem as BFEE, if things look improper or like they lied, they just kill some constitutional right, to keep the lid on the whole stinking mess. Move on nothing to see here. Quack, Quack, Quack.

Arrogant lying bastards.

Sonia

4. Cheney gave Scalia a ride from D.C. to Louisiana
on air force 2, which for that flight was a Gulfstream V business jet.

It's about a 2 and a half hour flight each way, or five hours round trip.

Not counting the millions it cost to fly in the limos and secret service for Cheney, just the flight alone is worth about $10,000 per hour or $50,000 for the trip.

A Gulfstream V costs $40 million to buy and has direct operating costs of $3,000 per hour. When you factor in depreciation, pilots, insurance, repairs, and so forth, its at least a $10,000 per hour ride.

I don't EVEN want Scalia to tell me he didn't get a $50,000 bribe. Don't even THINK about suggesting that this sweet little trip wasn't a very very very big bribe.

8. Well, judging by the amount of Hub-Bub this is causing
I'd say it fits within the criteria for recusing oneself. (The appearance of impropiety).

That's the bottom line: "The appearance of impropriety."

On second thought, shouldn't all of the Supreme Court Justices who appointed *Bush president be recused from decisions involving the Bush administration?

9. I heard he claimed he was never alone in a duck blind with Cheney.
I, for one, am certainly relieved to hear that. The mind pictures alone are cause for an upset stomach.

Scalia is a rotten lying bastard. What a crock. What ever happened to the APPEARANCE of impropriety??

He HAS to be on that case to give Cheney a free ticket.

13. Of course the duck hunting trip will not influence his vote; he has
known all along what it will be. He does not dare recuse himself for then Cheney might lose. Neither a-----e wants that.

14. Is this case being heard sometime this summer?
It was, the last time I checked. They haven't delayed it until after the election, have they?

If it goes the way Cheney and Scalia want it to go, it will look very bad for them. It could impact the campaign.

On the other hand, if we get to see all the dirt they did in their energy meetings, that will impact the campaign too.

Let's get those rotten lying bastards, one way or another!

15. Stall and stonewall.
He should recuse himself. If he doesn't within a few months the Dems should start an impeachment process on this azzhole.
