1. Hmm..mm is that a left-handed compliment to her? Odd article.
Well written, but the reference to her political leanings could be construed many ways.

Well, at least they mentioned her and linked to Scoop. Did not see a link to her website, though.

2. one would think...
...that the author, who claims to have 15 years tech experience, would be able to supply a working email address.

I think this is a hit piece.

3. Hey Y'all - make sure you write a letter to the editor on this one.......
Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 01:30 AM by DagmarK
I don't quite know what to say......but I will come up with some way to spin this.

The description of Bev does seem rather antagonistic:

News stories on the Diebold flap have ignored the original source of the claims: Bev Harris, a Renton, Wash., publicist and fast-talking progressive activist. The Johns Hopkins study was based on the code Harris found, but by her own admission she is neither an impartial source nor a particularly technical one. Harris claims she found Diebold’s source code online while obsessively Googling for information about the company’s possible connections to the Bush administration.

That’s probably why major newspapers, including the New York Times, that have picked up on her discovery have run it without mentioning her.

?????? yeah, I can hear Bev say, "I obsessively googled......." Yeah right......

******At the bottom of the article is a form to let the editor know what you felt about it.

4. bev knew she was going to become discredited and
the object of a smear campaign. This is the first and relatively mild attack on her. There will be more and worse to come. They don't know her yet and haven't investigated her so they haven't come up with any dirt. I wouldn't be suprised to find out interesting items about her like the time she paid her newspaper subscription late (cant be trusted with money), overheard domestic argument with spouse (spousal violence) etc. The GOP smear machine knows no bounds.

5. Diebold
CNN actually had a piece on this which I saw, but the bottom
line was Diebold denies any problems with their systems and
they would "consider" looking at the John Hopkins
report. Hardly a ripple from the commentator. As I
understand it, there is no paper trail with these machines.
Luckily, I decided to do absentee voting and I do photocopy my
vote.
